How Dumb Are These Pirates?!
So apparently in the region of the Horn of Africa, Somali pirates have attacked eight vessels this week alone, including the well-publicized seizing of the Saudi oil supertanker.
Meanwhile, India's navy just sank one of these pirate vessels >>
Gotta be pretty dumb to take on a warship, pirate or not...not to mention drawing so much attention to yourself.
Argh.
Meanwhile, India's navy just sank one of these pirate vessels >>
In its clash with the pirate vessel, the Tabar's crew hailed the ship and demanded it stop for inspection, and the pirates threatened to destroy the Indian ship, the ministry reported.
"Pirates were seen roaming on the upper deck of this vessel with guns and rocket-propelled grenade launchers. The vessel continued its threatening calls and subsequently fired upon INS Tabar," the ministry said.
The Indian frigate returned fire, setting the pirate ship ablaze and setting off explosions on board, the statement said. Two speedboats in tow behind the ship fled; one was found abandoned after a pursuit by the Tabar.
Story.

I was reading about this problem yesterday. Those bastards are making a lot of cash being pirates. I hope to see more of those jerkies get blown out of the water. Man you have a 100 million ship load of what ever and no protection on board. I would say thats just stupid at this point.

Yeah I remember about a month ago they were in the news as well.
Im also stunned, I never realized India had a navy, but good for them, they dont hold back

Yeah, these idiots really kicked the bee's nest when they stole a super tanker with $100M worth of oil on board. The world's response was pretty tepid when they were going after some tramp steamers hauling some grain or something, but when you start plucking with the West's oil supplies, well, these pirates are going to get Iraq'ed very soon. They bit off way more than they can chew now.

They are certainly getting gusty. Their first big hijack was the ship carrying Russian military weapons and now they take a oil tanker. Somehow I think they aren't going to last much longer.

man can you imagine that happening to you. That has to be some scary stuff for those people on those ships. Small ship or large ship these guys need to be hunted down and taken out.
Nov. 18: Piracy has proven to be a lucrative industry for ocean-bound outlaws, who have raked in more than $50 million in ransom money from the more than 80 cargo ship hijackings this year alone. NBC's Jim Maceda reports.
here is the article I read the other day.

they paid the ransom for two oil tankers 1.6 mil

Actually no, on the contrary. Looks like the ship they sunk was in fact a Thai trawler:
