.art is an AOL proprietary format. IE can open them usually, but they're really only ever used in AOL. When I had AOL a few years back it converted all the images to .art. I hated it. As if AOL wasn't slow enough, they have to add in the compression stage to slow it down even more.

I never knew that about AOL. I have only just started using it! Is there no way of turning that "feature" off?

Anyway, I will post from work then.

I don't think there is a way of turning the ".art" feature of AOL off. Try google, you may find something there.
