Can anyone who can speak greek (and write it) tell me what Leander is in greek? preferably in the greek alphabet?

According to my Webster's dictionary Leander was a legendary Greek youth who swam the Hellespont nightly to visit Hero but ultimately was drowned in one of the crossings. I guess they didn't have water taxis or helicopters in those days.

James--why on earth do you need this information? I thought I had an arcane curiosity!

 

I know it's actually pronounced Leandros or Ley-ahn-thdros. Yes I meant to put the th and d together like that because that's how it's pronounced. It's amazing how badly English speakers butcher the language. For example, there is no Greek letter known as Beta or Delta.
It's Veta and Thelta. Oh and that's a long E in Veta.

My dad (in Thessaloniki in Greece) tried telling me over the phone but he went a little quick and it takes me forever to read and write Greek so I'll ask if maybe they could type it or write it down and scan/e-mail it to me.

Sorry James but apparently their internet connection went down and they have yet to repair it. If I can still get it I will let you know but it may be a day or two. If I get a chance I'll call them so that my dad can tell me the letters used to spell it which I will then pass on to you.

Sorry it took so long, my parents forgot about me and I was only just now able to talk to them. OK, it's basically spelled the way it sounds
