Grand Turismo 4 Muscle Car Era Challenge
City Course, Seattle, Normal direction (makes for a nice Bullitt type chase scene course).
Stock only/no modes: The way it comes off the show room (including tires, transmission exhaust etc.)
Eligible cars/My current best time:
1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO/1:51.601
1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7/1:51.422
1969 Chevy Camaro SS/1:51.439
1969 Chevy Camaro Z-28/1:53.105
1969 Chevy Chevelle SS/1:51.092
1970 Dodge Charger 440 R/T/1:51:693
1970 Plymouth Super Bird/1:50.675
1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee/(Can't currently purchase it)
1971 Plymouth 440 Cuda/1:54.407
I also tested the 69 Vette and 65 GT-350R but they weren't true muscle cars so I'll leave them off the eligible car list (plus they were faster than the above muscle cars)
1965 Ford Shelby GT-350/1:49.271
1969 Corvette Stingray/1:50.475

As you can see above I was running some very comparable times (within .6 seconds) with the following:
1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO/1:51.601
1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7/1:51.422
1969 Chevy Camaro SS/1:51.439
1969 Chevy Chevelle SS/1:51.092
1970 Dodge Charger 440 R/T/1:51:693
FYI: XR-7, Dodge Charger R/T and a few others hit the rev limiter during the straight aways.
You could tell the weight difference in the corners and braking between the pony cars (Camaros and the XR-7) and the larger cars.
Of the eligible cars, I liked the feel of the Camaro SS the most (blasphamey!).

OK . . took a stab at a few before I'm off to bed . .
1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7 - 1:48.396
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 - 1:48.692
1970 Plymouth Super Bird - 1:49.888
1971 Charger Super Bee 426 Hemi - 1:49.990
I also tried the 1962 Buick Special - 1:39.107 (I think this is a resto-mod because it have 5 gears.)

Dang Jason, your XR-7 time is 3 seconds faster than mine! That's insane.
I did the NY 200 endurance to get the the 71 Charger Super Bee and went back with the 1970 Plymouth Super Bird
Dodge Super Bee: 1:50.287
Plymouth Super Bird: 1:50.306.
Back to the drawing board. I've got to at least break into the 1:49s

Took the XR-7 and the Chevelle out again:
Chevelle: 1:48.386
XR-7: 1:48:926
I was running a 1:48:0ish in the Chevelle and blew it on the last 90 degree right turn.

I think GT4 is a great game. Good car dynamics, and sound. The game has a couple items I would change, but overall it's a good simulation/racing game. And it's the best PS2, in my opinion, has to offer.

Now you're gonna make me make me get back on there and try to improve my times.
I'm amazed at how fast you are in the XR-7. I may be able to break into 1:47s in the Chevelle.

I got a chance to fire up my ps2 today for the first time in so long. It took some time to get warmed up, but I eventually got some good times.
Here were my best:
Chevelle - 147.725
Plymouth Super Bird - 1:48.300
I was driving the Chevelle and was a lap away from giving up on beating the Super Bird when I had a breakthrough to the 1:47's

When you say the normal direction, do you mean we race up the hill you catch air on? I wasn't sure because you said it makes for a nice Bullitt type chase scene course. That would make me think we're going down the hill and in the the reverse direction.
Are you using traction control? I wasn't, it was tough keeping the tires from going up in smoke, but I don't like TC and I never use it.
