hey Ed, you were on aircraft carriers in the navy and a volunteer firefighter too, are you sure you aren't my dad?
when were you in the navy, I think my dad was on aircraft carriers in the early sixties cause when he came back he bought his first new car, a 67 mustang coupe.

I was over in the Gulf of Tonkin form 69 to 71 and I came home to a brand new 71 Chevelle that I special ordered.

I lived through a fire when I was a kid. We lived in a little farm house with out a good heatting system. We use electric heaters in the bedrooms. I shared my room with three others, one of which was my brother Mike who was the youngest of us kids. He decided that he would have warm socks in the morning for school if he hung them wet over the heater. Because they were wet he thoghgt they would not burn. Oh about three in the morning I woke up to smoke. I grabed my brother and the rest of the family as we tried to put out the flames. It was an old house and she went quick. All of us made it out, but lost everything. Things can be replaced, people can't. And even now as an adult I still have this fear of fire. I do weird thing to make sure there will never be a fire in my house. And the smell of smoke always wakes me from a deep sleep. I wonder all over the house to make sure it is not our house. Mostly it is smoke from my neighbor's fire place. But still I check.

I am an anti fire freako-
I don't use candles.......Go phobic about unplugging stuff, Freak out on the BBQ grill, Don't put cigarettes in the garbage.........
Freaks me out completely.
Oh there is nothing left of the house- Horrible.

I lost a Grandfather in 1976, Grandmothers in 1983 and 1996, Father in 1997 and Mother in 1999.
I was an only child and had to deal with my Parent's illnesses and deaths on my own as I had no other family locally that was able to help. It was the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life...and I would do it all over again.

My Granddad died, we knew he was dying, it still stank.
We held vigil all weekend- and go figure, he died the second I went home to rest for a minute.
The family fell apart when he died. He was kind of the glue that held everyone together.
