Code:

As far as wasted money, Who is to say what is or is not a waste.
There are already uses for the technology in use by the LHC. The tech to cool the thing is now being used in France to help fight fires. Who would have thought the the LHC could help fire fighting, who knows what we might learn tomorrow and use to our benefit to better man kind ? Is it not our quest to learn all that we can ? It isn't Lewis and Clark but it is still exploring and we should never stop exploring.

This supercollider experiment could help us solve many mysteries about the universe and our place in it. It's a big step towards telling us whether Grand Unification Theory and current theorems about quantum mechanics are on the right track, and may reveal whether or not other dimensions exist.
The pursuit of scientific knowledge is essential to humanity's evolution and, ultimately, survival. Had we not developed a space program, for example, there would be NO theories on the table about how to divert an asteroid when one finally hits Earth (and it's almost certain to happen within a century or two).
Besides, how are we supposed to develop warp drive and prevent Klingons from orbiting Uranus without particle physics?
