For some strange reason I keep thinking about getting a job selling cars. As all jobs have their bs you have to put up with I was wondering what the deal is here?

I was also wondering how much the average salesman makes yearly and what kind of commision they make per car?

My uncle is a sales guy for a dealer...

He enjoys it, but I'm not sure how much he makes...I think most dealer's have a tiered commision, i.e. sell a 15k car and get 10%, sell a 25k car and get 20%, etc.

It can get pretty harsh, as much of the time is spent waiting to get customers and people are often wary of you, and splitting with a whole bunch of moola...

However, my belief is you got to try everything at least once...

Most stores pay you a percentage of the profit you generate, that's why they are always pushing for a higher price. Some stores, mine included, pay a flat fee per car. I prefer this type of atmosphere because I have no vested interest in WHAT you buy or how much you pay, as long as you buy something. You buy a $12,000 Focus or a $50,000 King Ranch Dually, I get paid the same.

As far as pay, some make a nice living but most make a feable wage but the great hours a high levels of community respect more than make up for the bad pay. I would never recommend it to anyone but would never quit doing it myself.

What do you consider a feeble wage?

The thing that scares me is there is a lot of adds saying you will earn $70,000 and up which I know isn't realistic for most.
