Big Brother, GM & Onstar
Found this in a Mopar website. It does not Surprize me. Believe it or Not. If it's True Ford will Get There Soon Enough!

Did you know that, coming in 2009, GM’s ‘enhanced’ On-Star program will give them the ability to control the gas pedal on cars equipped with that package?
Not only do they have the capability to track location and speed of every car on their GPS network, this ‘new feature’ will give them (or law enforcement) the ability to force the engine to idle speed, no matter how hard you depress the accelerator.
Yet another reason to not get that GPS package from the dealer. The portables are much less expensive, and usually more convenient, anyway.

Wow. Not something I want. This is another thing that we better hope that congress or the NTSB, etc doesn't catch on to, otherwise it'll become mandatory 'safety equipment' and we'll all end up paying for it $.
That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of.
The Man... keeping you down.

Stolen Vehicle Slowdown
Nothing a simple cell phone jammer couldn't fix (if you wanted to steal one). Although the AMPS sunset may force GM's hand on two-way GSM communication which is nowhere near the coverage of analog signals.

If stolen yes but look how many wrong doors get kicked in , in these cases what if say you were rushing your pregnant wife to the hospital and they cut your engine or they have a system melt up and your engine dies as result ? infrindging on rights I say some extent.
True story:
I owned a 2002 Chevy Suburban. After a year or so I decided to install a dvd/monitor and stereo system in the car. GM cars with On-Star use the car's speakers to converse with the driver and if you want to amplify these speakers you had to bypass On-Star. Well we had used the 1 year free subscription and didn't feel we needed On-Star anymore and we had actually refused to re-up with them so I had no On-Star at the time. Well I decided to disconeect the On-Star module since I was not going to be connecting it to my new speakers that bypassed the module. So if someone accidentally hit the button, On-Star would hear me through the mike and I wouldn't hear them. So I disconnect it and finish up a very good install saving me hundreds or maybe even a grand on labor...
The next day I get a call from On-Star on my home phone. They asked me if I knew my On-Star module was disconnected, I said yes I did it. They said to me, You can't do that!. I said I own the freakin' car I can do what I want with it. The lady then repeated in a louder voice that I couldn't do that. I responded with "well try and stop me" and slammed the phone on her. To this day it still pisses me off when I think of GM and On-Star.

Yeah, like THAT won't cause any accidents.....or malfunction....
I don't know how hackable the onstar system is, but if it has the ability to do this.... I can't wait for someone to break/crack the system (if it already hasn't) and start simulating onstar shutdown signals.
hahah
What's next... automatic speeding tickets when it knows your not at a track?
