Best way to pitch business idea?

I have what I believe to be a pretty sound business idea. I want to pitch it to the company that currently handles this industry.

My question is what is the best way to pitch it, but more importantly how do I make sure I don't get screwed and they just take my idea and use it anyway?

I know there are some business moguls on here. Gary's got like 18 businesses that he uses as fronts for his money laundering and drug sales. Help a brotha out lol.

Believe it or not I've never had to pitch a business to another business. I've made plenty of sales pitches for sure, but not one where I couldn't build the product myself and therefore have to protect myself during the pitch.

You could PM me any details you feel free to discuss and I could give some advice. I think you'd be better proceeding with the idea as far as possible even putting money into it before you ever have to reveal it to a capital investor. And I think I'd research capital investors in that field before actually taking it to a corporation.

You've got to protect the idea and the further you've grown the idea with a paper trail of evidence the less likely they would be to steal it without fear of a lawsuit.

And then of course some won't even hear you or take a look for fear of lawsuit over a future similar product or service they may have.

Just send it to me and let me see it.

All EXCELLENT POINTS. I'll send you a PM tomorrow. I think the best point you made was having a paper trail for the idea.

My biggest fear is developing the idea, only to be snuffed out by said company.

IF, (big if) they will sign a confidentiality agreement it will further enhance your 'paper trail' as Gary suggested. Although . . . at the end of the day no one can "own" an idea.

If you can't trademark, patent, or copyright your "whatever," is there any way to start your own firm, and then sell "it?"

You're absolutely right about "owning" an idea which makes this super tough. For my idea specifically, I don't think it's possible to trademark it. Anybody can do it really. Which is part of the beauty of it, super low overhead.

I do quite a bit with business stuff, if you'd like to PM me as well, perhaps I can help you come up with ideas for pitching the product, and for protecting your idea.

taking a dated screenshot of this thread might be a good thing to do as well, to add to your paper trail.

Excellent suggestion David!

For now I think I need to do a little more research. I've contacted the company to see if they will even hear me out.

If the firm has in house counsel it may be wise to insist they partake in the meeting. If they use outside counsel a little due dilligence may also be helpful in identifying the firm.
