AOL Dial Up Internet Going Away!

Ya I Know Most Folks Don't Even Know About Dial Up And Those Who Do Probably thought it Was Already Gone. Anyhoo Kind Of Interesting To Me as I Found Out, Just a Couple of Days After I finally Said Enough is Enough on My Old AT&T Land Line Home Phone! Ya Plenty of Folks Who Don't Know What That is Either! Anyhoo They Have Been Trying To Pull Service Here For Years and Now Were Trying To Get You To Use What Basically Amounted to a Wireless Base Home Phone. What's the Point.

I Liked The Hard Line Which When All Else Fails You Would Still Have a Phone! Well I Guess If Nobody Else Has Land lines So Who You Gonna Call Anyway and I Can Use The $600.00 a Year Savings By Cancelling The Service. After 62 Years Of Every Home I Lived in Having a Hard Line I'm Finally Done. A Bit of Nostalgic Remorse But That is The Way it Goes!

Dial up is about the speed we get here. I can't download photos on most threads and I always have to downsize my photos I post here because of the time involved to upload. If the photos look grainy, this is why. It's part of living in rural America and I'm OK with it. Satellite TV is key for me (sports, news) and problem free for the most part.
We still live in the past here in western NC so I can completely relate. We have our landline still and only use an emergency mobile phone (TRAC FONE) for our road trips and keeping in the car. A whopping $10 per month. Landline is about $50 per month but 911 works every time! No dead spots. I'll keep it until the service stops..

Our Wonderous Xfinity Cable Comes With a Phone Whether You Want it or Not. The First Few Years We Had It, We Kept Getting Collection Calls For The Previous Owners of The Phone Number So I Hated it From the Git Go and Left it Unplugged! At One Time When People Still Used Fax Machines a Whole Lot More The Land Line Was Useful As The VOI Voice over Internet Phone on Xfinity Would Not Play Nice With FAX. They Are Pretty Much The Way of The DODO For Most Folks So it Kind of Worked Out.

Still Don't Have a Cell Phone But The Wife Does & **** if I Can Barely Operate it Cause I Really Don't Want To! I'm Content With My Old PC'S & Eithernet as It's Miles Ahead of Wireless For Speed For Me. I Have a Back Up PC on Wireless and it's about as Slow as Dial Up Unless I Keep The Door Open In That Room Which is My Late Sons Room and The Cats Are Not Allowed in There as Just Too Many Memories on the Shelves I Don't Want Disturbed! They Got Free Run of 80% of The House So Not Like They are Limited in Things To Muck With. Just Like Having Small Children Around!

Anyhoo, Thought it Was an Interesting Topic!

Oh and as Far as AI Anything Not a Fan!

wow, I didn't know dial up still existed!

my Mom is 85 and still uses AOL ... she does everything inside AOL, uses their browser and everything; doesn't even know there are other ways to access the internet, other than through AOL .... but she uses a high speed internet connection, not dial up

I still have land line, it's fiber optic though. BARC put it in a few years ago. Phone has wire to the router .... the router is how I'm on line now, Wall / desk phones use the Fiber Optic too. My cell phone will search and find the router too, but I still use the wired phones.
