yes you can! mine is a 20high. I've joined a site (nano-reef.com) and there are tanks ranging from 2gallons all the way up. Its a very cool site and very helpful if anyone is interested in getting started. I will post pics of my 20g as soon as its clean and clear again!

20gallon is going to be HARD to do. You will have to have major filtration setups and also do weekly water changes. also bi-weekly water test to make sure none of your parameters fluctuate.

One bag of live sand would be good and I'd say about 35lbs of live rock would be a great benefit. Fish can get by with the normal flourescent lighting but if you want to raise corals you will need something more powerful (VHO's or t5's).

Tangs are great to watch, but they are very prone to getting ick. I had a yellow tang get that and it ended up killing about $120 worth of fish . Its pretty much a MUST that you have to have a UV sterilizer in a tank with Tangs. They are fairly cheap off e-bay though.

Also you will want a good protein skimmer that will have to hang off the side.

Cripes!

What is easy to raise in a 20 gallon?
Its sitting here empty since my clownknife died.
I will need to set it up again when I move out of here. Otherwise, I am putting pretty fresh water fish in there.

And to think, I have a ten gallon fresh water Gourami tank upstairs, and they thrive like nuts in there.

You could raise Damsels in a 20g pretty easy. Still gonna need a protein skimmer and good filter system (like the Fluval setups). Some sand and rock would defintely help as it acts like a natural filter. Damsels are mean lil bastages (although people say they arent) but can live through just about anything. I've determined that nuclear fallout will happen, cockroaches will be walking the earth and damsels will be swimming.

These guys are cool. Yellowtail Blue Damsels. Their other common name is "Yellow tail blue devil fish". I had 2 when I first got my tank setup and going. Fun to watch. http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_...cfm?pCatId=134

go here and read about the different fish. You can figure out easily what you can and cant have.
