I'm just having some fun.

Our guys are top notch, but when you have a bleeder, preserving the debris really isn't and shouldn't be a priority.

The station 6 guys were a problem for a while, but we got that fixed. I just shared it because it really was happening, and they thought they were helping by cleaning up the roadways. There were some hurt feelings at first, but we went by and showed them what we do on accidents after they leave, and they really got into it. After that, we even had them coming to us and pointing out stuff they were worried might get missed. ...it was a better story the other way...I'm from Texas, and we like good stories around here.

It's a friendly situation in our city, but we have different jobs to do at the scene, so invariably the needs of one will conflict with the other.

Accident reconstructionists also gripe about things like wind, rain, other motorists, the highway dept., other accident reconstructionists...basically, everyone and everything is out to ruin our scene!

The FD is in charge when there is an injury, and it should be that way.

I quit doing accident reconstructions when I took a detective slot back in 96, and just got back on the street recently. I'm a reformed reconstructionist, so I don't hate everything anymore. Just most things.

Over here in Shelby County, the firetrucks LOVE to respond to anything. Someone could have a splinter in their finger, and the firetruck rolls up if EMS comes.

Ok-I really need to learn!

In Oak Grove- You get the firetrucks and firehouse right?

So does that mean you get to respond to emergencies and have a legal reason to speed through town?
We dont service Oak Grove. I am with Warrior River Fire and Rescue. Oak Grove has its own FD. We have 1 engine, 1 resuce/mini-pump truck, 2 tanker trucks and soon to be another bigger pump/engine. We are working on gettinga federal grant and getting a fire and rescue boat. That way we would be the only water capable outfit in this part of the state.

Btw, I found a pic of the new tag you ordered.

Actually emergency apparatus with the exception of police vehicles are not supposed to do anything 10 mph over the speed limit in PA. Also all emergency vehicles must have their sirens on when proceeding to any call and must stop at red lights and stops signs before going through the intersection.

My buddy and I were almost T-boned by an ambulance going to a call once. He had his lights on but no siren and its a blind hill. He missed us by inches, didn't even slow down. Since the ambulance corp's was right across from the station we went in (being a FF I had some pull) and talked to the supervisor. The guy was put on suspension from driving for a month. I felt bad for him in a way but then again had he hit us we would have been injured, the ambulance crew would have been injured and the person in distress could have suffered worse so it had to be done.

Joel- I know you're just having fun It's cool and I whole heartedly agree with your statement. There are some dept.'s that are very unproffesional

Arin in Pa you only have to be 15 to be a Jr. FF. You still go on calls, you're just limited as to what you can do but its a blast. Look in the phonebook for local dept.'s and call and ask what the age requirements are. You can never start too early or too late.

You have to be 18 before you can do just about anything FF wise here. Im not sure what all you can/can't do since I dont have to worry about the age limit.

Arin, Did you also know i've spent at least a few hundred hours with the birmingham police department doing ride alongs. That is one of my career choices I'd love to still pursue. FF calms the pryo side of scothew

Unfortunatley it doesn't calm the "urge to beat Arin side" though does it?

Nothing will ever give us a cure for that

Interesting... the one I'm acquainted to is more hammer-like so you can swing it down hard on the hood. Though I'm sure that will do fine for perforating Arin

This one, you cant really tell in the pic, has a tip on it that is hardened steel. Comes to a point and is about 4" long. Get it above your head and just jam it into a car hood or take a sledgehammer and beat it through a concrete wall or house wall.

Thats always a plus. I think you can do it! We had a larger one like that that we used when I was going through training classes. Its amazing how they go through brick and concrete.

The most fun thing I did though by far was get to fly the Aerial truck. That is amazing! I only got to do it once coming off a roof on fire because we had to move fast but it was a blast.
