I may change my mind about the 4:10s after the .25 cents rise in gas prices. Being the baddest kid on the block may be a thing of the past if these prices continue to rise. What are your plans about the rear change? I may not be ROLLING ON after all.

Yeah gas is slowly find it's new stride. But I won't let the gas prices stop me from doing what I would want to do. When they first spiked I cut back on driving but I said "screw it!" and just increased my gas budget!

Ahhh! I honestly haven't taken notice to the difference. It's only at 3000 rpm's at 80. What is the rpm's at 80-stock?

4:10s are definitely going to affect your mileage. Not that these cars are awesome with the MPG, but with 4:10s, you're definitely going the wrong way.

And you know this how? Do you have 4:10 on your Mustang? I do and I've noticed no major change in MPG.

Agreed! Around town, I'm still getting 19-21 mpg-93 octane as well.

I stand corrected. In every other vehicle known to history, raising the rear ratio has negatively effected gas mileage. I guess our cars go against that trend.

I'm sure the gears will affect gas mileage a bit, but not more than a couple bucks a week, if that. Well worth the added speed, IMO. If you have the $500 to buy new gears and have them installed... on a near $30k sports car that you are modding... I think you can afford a couple bucks a week.

The only way I can explain it as far as the MPG being not that noticeable is maybe related to the tuning. I don't know for fact but the tune could or may have increased the mpg? I don't know! I just know that the mpg is not that drastic to notice.

usually higher octane increases mpg, so a tune calling for higher octane would and should theoretically increase mpg. But driving harder and using that extra power, could decrease

I've had mine tuned for a long time and recently had the gears changed. In town only, mileage dropped around 1.5 mpg. Still very decent mileage. I have not yet had an opportunity to take it on the road long enough to get a reading.

For those who enjoy the 1/4 mile and do a lot of city driving, they can enjoy the thrill every other stop light. 4:10s are not the ideal gears for daily driving. The pros will be the first to consent to that fact.

And check your fluid levels. An engine running high rpms constantly will consume a bit more than additional gas.

Well I guess I have an advantage, my Expedition gets ~13.5 - 14 Mpg with blended highway and stop and go driving. Going to the Mustang will get me an additional 3-4 Mpg, regardless of what gears I choose. With that much of an increase, I should get to drive in the HOV lane and get a Greenpeace sticker for the bumper!

Mileage for Bronco is 9 to 11 (on a really good day),
mileage for Mustang GT 17/25 (w/o heavy foot).

For me the Mustang is going be like driving an economy car.

4:10 for the manual are the sweet spot for this car both city & highway and that includes as a daily driver (which mine is). But hey, this is just my opinion.

Could? I know it DEFINITELY does, even with 3.55 gears!
