100 Greatest Guitar Solos..by people who don't know solos

Guitarists... unit...and laugh

http://guitar.about.com/library/bl100greatest.htm

I'll admit that some of those solos are great... but not 'greatest ever'

Seems like the list is compiled by people who don't know what the *** they are talking about.
My reasoning:

You have Kurt 'Cokemonkey' Cobain as:
#1 a guitarist.. and #2 having a great solo.

``````````````
Brings me to my next issue.
I remember LONG time ago back in gradeschool when people used to think Slash was gods gift...and were amazed when I'd play a solo or something by him. And at the time I wasn't really any good.
He's good, but there are SO many other guitarists out there..ranging from Muddy Waters, Rev Horton Heat, Chris Chainey, Leona Boydd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clapton, and many many many others.
It's all in perception... but people who don't play... figure if you can pull off a solo... you're amazing
I guess I'm just picking it apart because I play...
but I love when people defend a guitarist because 'he's got mad skillz' and he/she's in their favorite band, not because they are ultra talented.
Agree with you on your points; some of those are great, some arent, it's all about perception, people go for guitarist because they THINK they are talented.
I tend to like the technical side of instruments more than "feel" (but not to where it sounds like a bunch of machines are playing), so you most likely won't find my favorite guitarists in the top 1,000 on most of these lists.
Very happy that John Petrucci made the list though!
I don't play guitar or anything (my brother plays a bit), but I know what's up lol
I actually torrented that entire list back in the day. I found it somewhere.
I must agree with you though. If you really have an appreciation for music and know what goes into it, you preception of how "good" the musician is changes. I hate it when everyones like OMG THIS GUYS SUCH A GOOD GUITARIST I WANT TO BANG HIM, but the reality is hes just playing power chords and the song is catchy and happened to make it to #1.
The really good musicians often go unnoticed by most people because they play types of music that aren't popular (ie metal). Find me an average Joe who's heard of Trivium or Megadeth or a band like that.
At least we're smart about it eh
Metal not popular? All I ever hear about today besides rap is metal... at school, on the street, on the internet, on TV, in movies...
I'm the only person I've ever met who likes the Steve Miller Band and other bands like that...
What is real metal? Maybe it's fake metal that's so popular...
I can't tell.
Some of those dont make much sense as greatest solos ever. I was however glad to see some Allman Brothers (although not high enough ranked IMO) and some Smashing Pumpkins (not sure if technically top 100 worhty, but definitely has the "feel"). Also wasnt it the song "Dazed And Confused" where Jimmy Page played the guitar with a violin bow? Surprised that wasnt on there.
Oh and RATM Tom is definitely a technical type player.
Yup, Dazed... is the song Page played with a bow lol
and Page's favorite solo isnt on there... Achille's Last Stand (He himself said it was a better solo than Stairway's... I agree)
