What makes a car collectible?
I for one do think a 2012 GT500 (not to mention the regular GT) will be a collectible in less than 20 years. Why? Because before then we'll all be driving 3 and 4 cylinder cars that weigh about half of our current vehicles. A 5.8 liter engine will be for something like a fire truck, not a passenger car. We'll have 1 liter engines in our daily drivers. 650 hp, are you kidding me. You'll be lucky to get 100 hp in the future. So yeah, I think they'll be collectible and far more collectible than the current crop of 60s and 70s muscle cars. Modern muscle cars get at least double the gas mileage, better brakes, better handling, safer, and they require less maintainance. It's not just the crappy economy that's the reason for 60s muscle car price collapse. The modern car is just better and costs a lot less.

Is this the only site on the internet where people don't believe that CAFE standards will be implemented? Do you think the US government is just kidding about all this fuel economy bs? Get a grip. The new standards are coming. This is a freight train headed our way and there is no way to stop it.

If I had one, I can guarantee you it would see street time. I wouldn't hesitate to slap a drive out tag on it and take it out to cruise ins, car shows, or just a few blasts to the local store.

The first gen GT500 is a good example of how the crap all over the future collectible status of a car. High ADMs and the people who bought them, snapped them all up as garage queens hoping a few years down the road that they could make a buck or two. What a perfectly good way to make a car irrelavent.
Fords continual improvement of the GT500 hasn't helped as well, but on the bright side, the car's diminishing value as an instant collectible is a good thing as it gets those cars out of the hands of speculators and on the street where people can enjoy, use and abuse them letting the car build a rep (attrition is also a good way to pump up the value of a car).
I agree with your last statement. Accessibility is only about money nowadays. The Boss or GT500 is very accessible to the people who can afford them. Just order one. If the supply was truly limited, it would be a different story.
