So whaddya all think? Better before...or after? Not hugely different, me thinks, but I have to say I kinda favor the redesign. The original design is too "on the nose" compared to the '69 car.

More info and images here.

In other news, I read that GM is fully intending to produce the car, and hope to have it into production BEFORE 3 years.

I like the after version with the ram air hood, the fog lamps, the shorter front bumper, and the more pronounced curve of the rear fenders it has a more modern look. Its evolution matches the original's cues. Chevy did for the Camaro what Ford did for the Mustang.

I dont like either. Show something remotely produceable like the Challenger which is over 90% 'real'.

Oh you mean a 90% clone?

I just hope Chrysler saved the tooling from the original Challenger, that could really cut down on cost.

Yeah, it's a sloppy job of Flash animation, that's for sure. Guess they're trying to rush to capitalize on all the sudden interest.

If you go to the Then and Now section and click on the 1967, I like how they say, "Unlike its main competitor, Camaro consisted of... "

What, they don't want to mention the Mustang even when talking about the past?

Sheesh, anyone watch the unveiling video?! It just keeps going and going....

I like how the GM President mentioned Chevy had a great year in 2005 and 2006 is going to be even better....

I'm really liking the new camaro. I remember watching a show about how some automotive experts were saying Ford may be shooting itself in the foot by taking so many retro styling cues instead of reinventing the mustang. They wondered where Ford would go next as many people are still too stuck on the nostalgia of the classic cars. Chevy on the otherhand, has created a camaro with very subtle design cues from the classic but looks futuristic/innovative enough to be around for quite a while. This is what some "experts" said so as always, you can probably take it with a grain of salt

2006 will be even better......with a Camaro concept...that hasn't been decided on and won't be produced this year.

First pic is definitely more retro-looking, but I like the concept better because its aggressiveness and because the ram-air cowl hood just looks cool.

funny how the chief designer said that they are not building a retro camaro, but then in another breath he says that they are taking styling cues from the 60s bodystyle

Actually, it does mean "jack crap." Company's generally don't engage in this kind of positive-push campaign unless they're reasonably certain they're going to build it.

Wellburn as much as said it's going to be built:

GM's Welburn hints at production for the Camaro

Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress, Ed Welburn, Camaro fanatic and GM Vice President Global Design, all but confirmed that the Camaro concept will see production.

While he wouldn't say that GM had decided to produce the popular concept, he did hint that production could happen more quickly than the usual three year product cycle.

Automotive News cites GM sources as saying that the production car will be little changed from the concept, except for a lower cost version of the interior to go with an entry-level V6 model.

The first major step toward possible production will come later this year, with the rollout of the Zeta rear-drive platform by GM's Holden subsidiary.

So the Zeta platform is back? I thought they scrapped that idea...
