That is one sharp looking small car, hardly the econobox penalty box so often perceived (and received) in this class of car. Better looking than even the new Golf if you ask me.

This, the Fiesta and Mini might well disabuse Americans that small cars are necessarily cars you have to resort to buying because you can't afford better rather than cars you may well want to buy on their own merits.

I wonder how long until we get it this side of the pond.

PS The plaid seat material is actually a rather signature element for VW's GTI cars.

That is Polo GTI, which is the most expensive Polo.

The rest of Polo's lineup does not look as sporty as the GTI.

This Polo BlueGT is rated at 64 mpg.

Another 2016 Volkswagen is confirmed for the USA and that is Golf GTD, which is basically a Golf GTI with a TDI diesel engine (2.0L 180 hp 280 lb ft torque). The price should be around $27,000.

I've always thought those seats are like half the reason for buying a VW

I really like the Polo GTI. There are tons of them here in VW land. I have even seen one with a VR6 motor and RWD and one with big power and AWD that had been customized by speed shops.
