Video review of the 2008 Accord

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6lPW2sRdrk

The thing that jumped out to me were the issues with the trunk.

- Why is Honda using the old style trunk hinges that intrude on trunk space?
- Why does only part of the back seat fold down and not the whole thing?
- Why isn't the trunk floor flat?

Also (not mentioned in the video), it only has 14 cubic feet of trunk space. The Fusion has 15.8 and the Taurus has 21.2. Considering that the Accord is now classified as a full size like the Taurus, 14 seems rather measely.

I wouldn't be surprised if trunk space was sacrificed for rear seat room.

The 2008 gained 1 inch in both rear leg and rear hip room. Front leg room remains basically unchanged.

I glanced at one at the dealer, it doesn't impress me. Id take my Civic Si anyday over the new Accord.

That trunk looks like a disaster. Uneven floor, crappy hinges, less space, only one folding seat. Bleh.

Center console didn't impress me either. Too many buttons that look exactly the same, and iDrive-light sticking out in the middle.

I've noticed much the same. The outgoing Accord was a model of simplistic efficiency inside, th new model does not appear to be following suit.

Makes you wonder if History really is cyclical and we're starting to see the Big Two headed toward the sort of problems complacency caused in the Big Three.

I'm with you. This new Accord seemed to pick up a lot of heft and size for very little benefit, if any. It may still be wonderful car, but it does make one wonder how much more wonderful it would be if it didn't get so much larger. Bigger is only better if the car itself is improved in the process.

One other note about the 2008 Accord: it still has a 5 speed automatic. The Fusion (except the I4), Taurus, Camry, and Mazda6 all have 6 speeds now and the Altima has a CVT. Other than the engine upgrade, they've really done nothing to improve the Accord over its predecessor.

Quick prediction: it will be the Motor Trend Car of the Year
