Vehicle Depreciation List
Here's a list of the cars and trucks with the lowest depreciation, and I have to say, WTF???
The top 6 cars for lowest depreciation are:
Honda S2000 - 51.7%
Mini Cooper - 51.5%
Acura TSX - 47.7%
BMW M3 - 47.6%
Mercedes-Benz SL Class - 47.0%
Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG - 47.0%
Okay, I can see the Mercedes and M3, but a Honda at number 1? Even more surprising though is the truck list:
Toyota 4Runner - 49.3%
Honda CRV - 49.0%
Toyota Sequoia - 48.9% (tie)
Lexus GX 470 - 48.9% (tie)
Toyota RAV4 - 48.8%
Again, maybe the lexus is warrented, but I dont get the rest. And every one is an SUV. I guess the truck market is dying with gas prices.
You can also see the highest depreciation list, which Kia, not shockingly, tops:

I dont have a problem with an Acura on the list (which is the case), but Honda is an entry-level company, even if the car is not. The bottom five are fairly new/exclusive/expensive cars, but Honda has built their reputation on inexpensive quality family cars. The S2000 is definately their most exciting car, but I'm surprised to see people willing to pay so much for a used Honda.
It is worth noting, however, that this is just anticipated depreciation, so its all just a guess anyway.
By the way, I do like the TL, but it needs rear-wheel drive and I dont like the clutch, which doesnt have any feel to it.

Some of its perception, perhaps, but a lot of it is an overall record of quality engineering and reliability, which Honda has been cultivating since the beginning.
While one might not like or appreciate the particular vehicles they sell, they do design, engineer and build very good, very reliable and very high quality cars across the board, from low end to high end.
Domestic manufacturers have improved immensely in these regards, but are still a bit uneven across their models and have a huge, and well deserved, lingering negative perception from the past they're still working to overcome. If I recall, the new Ford Mustang rated very well in Consumer Reports on the more boring aspects of reliability and whatnot, showing that, with proper design, engineering and manufacturing, high performance, high quality and high value can go hand in hand.

Interesting list. And that's depreciation over a five year period. Yeah, the new car smell is nice but I hate taking big depreciation hits. Maybe that's why I've only purchased only one new car in the last 31 years.
