...but Toyota - who at best can be described as the milk toast of the automotive world having the cojones to even comptemplate something like this, surely that line was your entry into to world of stand up comedy.
Buhahahahaha... Toyota and muslcecar in the same sentence...

Needs to be more Astony
The mustang kicks the supra azz in bang for buck.
also, you are a pretty active member but you don't have a name...anything else we can call you besides BC shelby and that porno name Hollywood North?

Was that remark ignorant? Or did he perhaps limit historical influence on his expectations to.....oh....say....THE LAST DECADE. Who cares if Toyota made a badass car from '93 to '97, they haven't built a high performing coupe since...and certainly not one even close to the expected price of this Hyundai.

Many Japanese cars died in the past 10 years or so, its not just Supra.
240SX, Skyline, Celica, Supra, Prelude, Integra, RSX, NSX, 3000GT, S2000 is almost dead ...

No I haven't forgotten about the Supra, more to the point, you can't go down right now and by a Supra, MR2, or a Celica GTS.
As far as great dead sports cars go, at one time, you could go down to a Ford dealer and buy one of these
and for a brief second, this is all that Supra would ever see of that GT.
Heck I even knew about this

As to Hyundai's proposed coupe, there's no question they're rising fast, and becoming a legitimate threat to every segment they enter, so Ford will have to pay attention to the competition on all fronts now.
That said, I wouldn't buy a Hyundai. Not yet, anyway. And if I ever did, it wouldn't be for a "performance" car, it would likely just be for simple transportation.

I've always kinda like the Tiburon... even though I know it's a cheap, somewhat poorly made (I know from browsing Tiburon forums), slow 2 door coupe. It seems like a fun car to pick up cheap, cheaply mod, then beat the crap out of.
Although it's styling is getting sorta dated now (IMO), I think it was pretty cool when it first came out (edit: talking about the 3rd gen Tib).
Like someone else said, I think Hyundai has gotten better over the years in regards to quality. I've read some pretty good reviews lately.
About this particular Hyundai in the original post... sounds cool, but in terms of styling, I don't like the grill... it's a bit big and weird looking for me. Also, I think the car overall could be a bit more aggressive looking.

Still no sound clips
And Clockworks, I'm right with you on the Tib! It's kind of funny how Hyundai was able to make a small sportyish coupe that real well rounded auto enthusiasts find themselves a fan of. I know I'm one, and hell, even my buddy that prefers European sports cars (he drives an M coupe) adores the lil Tib.
A V8 RWD setup in that car would make it kind of like the AMC's of old in my opinion, and thats a good thing!

I like the styling of the '02-'05 Tiburons. They're not fast but they looked good. It was the 2nd nicest looking budget coupe out there , after the Mustang. The 2006 facelift ruined it though.

I don't know if I'd call the Mustang a "budget coupe." Definitely excellent bang-for-the-buck value, but not really a budget car in the way that the Tiburons are. Tiburons are cheap AND underpowered.

A V6 Deluxe is about $19.5 K right? That's probably the least expensive rwd coupe on the market....
