From Autoblog:

Starting at 68k, fully loaded 73k...

Granted, it's a great car that will have amazing performance, but not THAT much to put it into Z06 price (68k) territory nor to have the Porsche 911's prestige (71k)...
IMHO, Audi USA made a huge mistake with the price for the RS4, more so considering that in Europe on average the premium you got to pay to get an RS4 over the regular S4 it's about 25-35% of the price of an S4, depending on what country you are.
In the US, Audi USA is putting a whopping 48 % premium over the S4 price (starting at 46k).

Bad Audi ! Bad !

well,I think it's still the best sport sedan available as long as the new CTS-V isn't produced. For that price I would take the Z06 any day,but it isn't RS4's competition, nor is the rich-pensioner sports-car 911.So this discussion is pointless in my opinion.

Yep, it'll doubtless be a great driver's sedan - that is, when it's not in the shop for repairs to the electrical system.

one time i was walking in front of some guy's house which had an Audi RS6 sitting in the driveway. i noticed what looked like shoepolish on the window, so i decied to take a closer look at the car. he noticed me and came out to talk, and he indeed raced the $90k audi regularly at my local track, Englishtown, for an audi/vw event.

he was real nice, and started the car up for me (but no ride ). it was an awesome car, and he had it producing around 530 hp with larger turbos, exhaust, and tuning. even though the rs4 isnt quite up the the rs6 level, it's a really cool car and is a bit cheaper then the rs6 too, though still to much.

by the way, the guy also showed me the rest of his garage, which included a Mercedes SLK 32 AMG, Escalade, Yukon, Lexus SC 430, and an old Toyota T-100 . yeah, he had some $$$.

You get 4.2L V8 418 hp all-wheel-drive luxury sedan for $68,000 which is not bad at all.

That car should have been priced around 60k, not 70...

You call that expensive?!?! In Germany the RS4 starts from EUR 69,000 (~US$ 83,500), and they actually make them there! Here in Holland, where there's a 42% (yes, 42!) state tax on all new cars, the same RS4 is on offer for EUR 100,000 (~US$ 120,000)!
The starting prices for the "little brother" - the S4 - in Germany and Holland are EUR 53,900 (~US$ 64,500) and EUR 67,900 (~US$ 81,500), respectively.

And this trend can be seen in all European car manufacturers: the same cars are being sold for 20-30% less in the US, regardless of where the cars are actually built. Can you imagine what the actual production costs are, if the same car is exported from the EU to the US, going through taxes, shipping, registration, etc, then ending up still 20% cheaper than where it left from? And at the same time, American cars sold in Europe are 20-30% more expensive than in the US! I don't care what their marketing departments are saying, I still feel cheated just because, on average, we make more money than the Americans.

I was lucky to be able to buy my 2005 GT tax-free in Holland, being an expatriate. Still, I paid EUR 34,500 (~US$ 41,000) for it, while the market price was EUR 52,900 (~US$ 63,000).

Sorry for the rant!
