I know that at least some cars have ABS systems seperate from the other electronics, but what about the traction control?

On the 2005-06 Mustangs, it's controlled by the ECU. If it detects wheelspin, it backs the throttle down. My 2004 Mazda6 was the same. I'm not sure about other cars.

I think all of the cars traction control are controled by the ECU. I'm taking a class of front end supspension and brakes and my teacher was telling me something about that, I wasn't paying attention to him .

Its much more cost efficient now with powerfull computers. All cars are much simpler then older cars. Its all electrical sensors and lines of code. There are no more mechanical sensors, vaccum controls or other ancient devices. The computer car really came of age just recently, its amazing what has happened in the last 5 years. For a nostalgia kick, one should go over a full boat loaded 70's caddy or a mid 1980's Mk IV sometime.
