Toyota hit hard by new Consumer Reports predicted reliability ratings

Today's release of CR's 2007 Annual Car Reliability Survey suggests otherwise, as the Toyota Camry V6, Tundra V8 4WD and Lexus GS AWD were all bumped from the magazine's vaunted "Recommended" list for receiving below average ratings.

Meanwhile, Ford did very well in the new survey, with 41 out of 44 of its products scoring average or better in predicted reliability. Plus, the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Ford F-150 V6 2WD were three of the only four domestic models that earned the label of "Most Reliable".

Congrats to FMC!! Now continue to improve quality and begin to bring to market some 'must have' product and the turn around will be in full swing!!

The first widely visible signs of cracks in Toyota's armor and much-vaunted reliability? Now, all Ford has to do is build cars people want to buy - at all levels, not just in the specialty segments or rental fleet market.

It's about time CR stopped making reliability ratings on new designs based on past years. That goes for domestic and foreign.

Although I respect their decision to change their format for the better, I still will not consider CR the end all and be all of reliability ratings that they want to be.

Thanks for the find Zoran!

Doubt it. It will take a few years of reports like this for the pendulum to swing back again.

The question is: Does Ford have that long?

That said, it's still great news!

heres another article on this with a little more information.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...710170333/1148

My favorite part of the article is:
In the past, Consumer Reports has automatically recommended each new version of Toyota, Lexus and Scion models that have already earned that rating because of Toyota's strong quality record. That will no longer be the case.
Champion said new versions of models from each of the three Toyota brands will now be subject to the same scrutiny as models from other automakers.

That just goes to show why consumer reports is bull to begin with.....but at least now it might be different. Great reviews for Ford....read about the warranty issues or lack there of

Let's hope Toyota continues to make arrogant remarks like this >>

"We're going to look forward to analyzing their data in depth," said Toyota spokesman John McCandless, who said Toyota's internal quality studies have not identified problems with any of the three models given bad marks by Consumer Reports. "I don't think it will impact sales."

I'm a Ford guy so its good news. Having said that, I haven't been a big fan of Consumer Reports so just because of the positive Ford stuff/negative Toyota stuff, thats not going to change. Has anyone seen this latest news on any of the major news programs ?????

Well, I tend to agree. This would have to go on for several years for it to make much of a dent in Toyota sales, I suspect.

For what it is worth . .
Toyota's 4.4 percent fall marked the Japanese automaker's first three-month decline in the U.S. since 1995.

Granted FMC is on it's 11th monthly decline, but Toyota hasn't had the best of news lately.

I've been trying to tell people this for years especially with the Lexus marque. Hell a friend of mine with 2 Lexus's (gs 300 and rx 300) is my biggest customer. And parts costs are outrageous.
