Towing Advice?
I've got a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, with the 4.0 Inline 6. I need to tow my old Nissan pickup on a flatbed trailer, someone told me not to drive it in overdrive, because it will mess up the transmission. I've got to drive about 2 hours up the interstate, how true is this information? The Jeep's fuel mileage isnt that great already. Also, if you have any other towing information that I should know, please tell me, I've never towed anything before, so I need some pointers. And I gotta figure out that backing thing, lol.
Stay under 65mph (or 55 in 55 zone).
Take it out of overdrive up hills.
Take it easy in general.
Plan your braking, brake easy as much as you can.
You will not be able to slow down as fast as normal.
Hard braking can jack-knife a trailer too.
Make sure your hitch has the proper rating for your tow load and tongue weight.
Make sure your hitch is secure before moving.
Don't forget the safety chains.

That's about what I figure, I've always been around the big trucks and stuff, it'll be mostly interstate, so, 65 will be about right, I dont speed anymore. Thanks!
