WHAT the heck is this!?

I like Top gear, I really do. But wtf is this! The corvette does not have leaf springs! The clutch is bound to be heavy at 400lbs of tq and he seemed to be shifting pretty darn easily in the road course! ANd it sure as heck is faster than a bloody NSX! :flag2:

Typical European BS about American cars .....

This looked like more of a bash the USA segment on a show than anything else. Every magazine that has touched the car so far has loved almost every aspect of the car. This weekend Car and Driver and Spike TV gave the car rave reviews and said it would probably show up on the years ten best list again. These guys need to be reminded of who is paying the bills now for their beloved european cars. (Jaguar and Aston Martin)

The only thing I enjoyed about this is that they pretty much stuck it to GM about how they feel about American Sports cars. I said it before and I'll say it again that Dave Hill should not have inked the C6 design so they would sell 2% more units in Europe. Keep it American. :usa:

This bashing of Europeans because of a car show is getting ridiculous. The corvette is a good car, IT DOES HAVE REAR LEAF SPRINGS!, and it was not as quick around the track due to massive oversteer and tetchy brakes (2 seconds slower than the GT40).

Obviously, American shows will like American Cars, British shows do not like anything.......

As for this little nugget " Typical European BS about American cars ..... " and "These guys need to be reminded of who is paying the bills now for their beloved european cars. (Jaguar and Aston Martin)", two words, GROW UP. If Ford were not going to make money on them, they wouldn't have purchased them, would they???

I do not normally have a direct go at someone, but I advise that you do not watch Top Gear on sleepyfish, that way, you can keep your own views on a car without having them sullied by Motoring Journo's that do not share your exact opinion.

Rant Over, sorry for any offence.

i personally thought it was a great bit. I think for the most part the Top Gear guys are fair about cars. At least they aren't afraid to say what they think.

BTW about the rear suspension...it is a leaf spring

"While the foundation has been enhanced, every suspension component that attaches to it has been changed - none of the suspension bits have been carried over from C5. The short-long arm and transverse leaf spring independent suspension design remains, but the control arms, springs, dampers, bushings, stabilizer bars, and steering gear are completely redesigned. The Extended Mobility Tires (EMT) are also new, taking advantage of the latest compound technology for run-flat capabilities, and play a critical role in the tuning of the suspension for maximum handling and a comfortable ride"

Bull. The guy spent more time patting himself on the back than actually driving correctly. He couldn't even keep it on the track!!! Slower than what? Cars that cost twice as much?

Regardless if they are using them to make money or not, An American company kept those namebrands from going the way of the F-body.

Grow up? I think you need to examine yourself if you are going to throw insults around like that. Maybe as an American I don't like being refered to as the "colonies" and that the car has been around amost longer than "us".

Yes, surely a review with some poor comments about the car means that they're bashing America.

(yawn)

Mindless patriotism strikes a car messageboard once again...

EDIT: I watched the review to see what the brouhaha was all about, and it's quite needless. The general sentiment about American performance cars held true here: They're generally behind the latest cutting-edge technology, but they're still amazing fun and very quick.

And considering how often you come across an NSX or a TVR on the streets of America, it was good to see that the C6 soundly beat the 911 (which was a Turbo as well).

The qualms about interior were perfectly valid, as I've despised this interior since I first saw it, and the steering wheel is hideous.

I felt the review was overall positive, as much as the guy's partner was averse to the technology used and the body's less than tensile nature.

This actually kind of funny. My cousin, an advid sport car enthusiast, was looking at leasing a C5. He didn't like it though, he liked the power but could never get the feel of the car and it seemed heavy to him. He got a lease on a Z4 in the end. I can see what he was talking about. He let me learn stick on his Z4 and I can understand why he may not like the Corvette. The Z4 has a light clutch but then again it doesn't produce that much power. The Corvette has a heavier clutch but produces a lot more power. Maybe that has something to do with it.

*edit, Now that I actually say it, I think Jeremey is just ticked off that it did so well. They do that to a lot of cars. Richard like it a lot though.

They do have an attitude about American cars, just because they're American. If you took whatever Ferrari's got on the drawing boards, produced it exactly the way they'd produce it, but slap an American car brand name on it, they'd say "It's fantastically fast, fun and handles extraordinarily well, but it's still a bit naff ... it is, after all, American." Keep it in Italy with the horse on the hood and that judgement disappears.

I like Top Gear alot, they're very good and I like their presentation, but it irks me when they have preconceptions like that.

I think a lot of it is for show. Rich really liked the Corvette, and Jeremy Clarkson owns on of the 12 or so GT's that are coming to this country. If you really didn't like a car because of it's heritige, you wouldn't buy it.

That is a leaf spring. If someone can show me a picture of a c6 with those stuck under it I will retract all my statements. I don't care if it uses some highly advanced part and they decided to call it a leaf spring, if it doesnt look like that , it isn't.

I doubt there are pictures anywhere yet that show that on the C6, since it isn't out yet. Wait for some owners to start taking loads of pictures of their cars and then you'll see 'em I guess.

First I'm not arguing over his claims about the heavy clutch, cheap interior, or how crappy they think the plastic is. Gm could make the car out of Carbon Fiber and give it an NSX interior but then the car would be priced where all these other high end cars that they are comparing it to are. It's supposed to be a performance bargain.

What do I have a problem with? Mindless Patriotism? I'm sorry but this country deserves a lot more respect than to be called the "colonies" by a biased car reviewer. If they are giving the car negative feedback thats one thing, but don't present yourself on a TV show as this guy did.

As for the Msutang, they probably think it is garbage as well. Insert no IRS talk here. I'm sure a lot more members here would be outraged if they did bash the Musatng just because it is an American icon.

there is a pretty simple solution to all this bikering....

drop it and next time i post a TG flic don't watch it if you think they are biased.
I posted this for the TG fans like myself and James and jason and the others...if it doiesn't crank your trucjk than don't watch it..very simple solution.

As for bashing the stang..they just might do that and if so..who cares..at least they will have a good time with the car like they do with all of them.

And the colonies thing..geeze stop worring about it. If that is all you have to worry about consider yourself lucky. Why ad to the misery of everyday life just because they refered to us as "the Colonies" which we are BTW. heck when a brit referes to us as the colonies I take it like a kinship bond. Like we have some cool inner thing goin on there.

But hey that's just me.

I was thinking the same thing...

I love everything about Europe (except maybe France), and hope to visit someday. Stereotypes do exist, and have been engrained in the minds of people from both continents. American cars may be sub-par, but British food is all disgusting.

They liked the 2001 Bullit Mustang a lot. I can't find a video of it but this is there opinion on the car in writting. On tv, they just say a lot of stuff like that to be funny. They don't just do it to us, they do it towards German cars too. They rat on the Germans a lot in certain shows.

If you post it I can give my opinion on anything I want. I didn't see a header under the topic that said " for a select few people only". If you are so upset about my opinion maybe you should start your own board. If not, don't tell me when to post.

The funny thing is every time Car and Driver bashes the Mustang it results with 90% of this board insulting them and calling them morons. True? I did not even comment, nor do I care about, what they thought about the new Vette. They hated it before they saw it.
