Test drove GTO for grins

I just wanted to see how the GTO was. So i went to the dealer and told him i was looking at 2004 GTOs (the LS1 version) and told him it had to be a 6-speed.

So he had one on the lot and i took it for a spin.

Very solid feeling car and the seating position is perfect. The shifter had pretty long throws but that could be easly fixed. After ripping through the first 4 gears the car really doesn't feel as fast as it is due to having such quiet exhaust.

Now I wanna go test drive a 2005+ Mustang GT to see how it compares.

The 2004 GTO wasnt much faster then the 05+ Mustanf because it only had 350 hp and weighed a bit more. Car & Driver had a showdown between the two a year ago, and the Mustang won.
The 05 GTO is considerably faster with the 400 hp 6.0, but it is a pretty expansive car. Ive never driven one, but I've been inside them, and they are pretty nice.

I actually want to test drive a 350z, STI and Evo and see how competitive they are with the GT.

I've driven a Z, albeit a few years ago, and wasn't that impressed. The EVO, while wickedly fast, (I haven't driven one, but friends have) is cheaply made. Just shut the doors hard, and they have that "tinny" sound, not that solid sound. I recently stopped at a Mitsu dealer, and they had a MR edition. Looked at the sticker.....$38,000 MY GT listed at $29K. For the money, the EVO, not worth it in my opinion. Now, the STI is a cool car. That is the only one of these 3 I like the most. They have great seats in them, and a fanstasic AWD system.

ya know the evos destroy the STI's in pretty much everything. THe STI is a nicer car off the showroom. but for all out performance and modding the evo can't be touched by the STI.

I believe that fully, I just said that the STI just looks like a better built car "out of the box" per say. It doesn't seem cheaply built as the EVO, thats all I was saying.

Can't speak for build quality but appearance wise the GTO never even interested me. As far a the Z's go I never liked them much, they look a little chunky and the vert version looks worse. IMO
