At our condo in FL we have assigned parking spaces [2 per unit]. There are signs everywhere that say you can get twoed for parking in an assigned spot. I have a 120,000 '99 Taurus SW that I keep there for transportation [great car. just like the energizer bunny].
Anyway we came home from dinner one evening and there was someone in our second parking place, parked to the right and close to the other neighbors car. It was not a car I recognized and someone was to lazy to walk from the visitors spot. So I parked my beautiful Taurus SW about an inch from his car [I was slightly over the line but oh well, it was my line]. Would have loved to see his face. Beats getting towed and having to pa a couple hundred dollars to get the car back.

It's hilarious that you mentioned Wal-mart! I just went there with my g/f because I wanted beef jerky and they were selling them for around $2.00 for a jumbo pack of the good brands. I was well-aware of the sort of people who frequent Wal-mart so I parked way in the back (one space) and left my g/f in the car. Told her to cell me if anything got hairy. No call, but when I got out of the store my g/f told me three (!!) cars had pulled up next to my '05 to park, saw my g/f, and left!!! What scumbags. I will not be visiting Walmart again in the '05.

mmmm, good ol' beef teriyakki nuggets...best kind of jerky ever to come from a Walmart.
Stopped at one gas station on the way back from Myrtle this past weekend and found the same thing that we bought at Walmart for 2.81 on sale for 6.79! SEVEN dollars for a bag of jerky, those things better be able to cure cancer!

I reccomend parking next to a curb/shrub/bush/etc and very closely to it. That means you cant get a ding on that side and it gives the other space a lot of room.

If
Been there, done that and had some a-hole in a pickup pull up over the curb and park on the grass so close that my wife could not get in the door. I posted this somewhere else, anyway, I called the tow company and had him towed. He went way over the line by doing what he did.

Perhaps Ford should take a few pointers from Saturn and make doors that do not ding. That would end the door ding problem.
You would rather have plastic doors?

My wife is handicapped and we have the plates. I don't use them when she is not with me. But, when my car gets here. I may have to change my ways, I have had a hip replacment so it is not a total stretch to park in one without her. Somedays my hip requires I use it. I had a 92 Explorer that I parked way out by itself IN 1 SPOT and some childish A&& saw fit to hit it with a shopping cart.

This sounds terrible and I may PI&& some people off but, If you damaged someone's car for taking care of it. Just remember what goes around comes around and I hope it comes around your way. It sounds as if your proud of your childish and disrespectful behavior.

Like I'm sure most of us did in our teens I did somethings that where wrong because we thought it was fun but, I always knew what my car meant to me so I never damaged someones car. If your testosterone level is that high spend more time in the restroom or at the bank.

Sorry for the tirade I guess it is just the GRUMPY OLD MAN coming out in me.

When I ride the motorcycle, I will purposely park it next to a car taking up 2 spots (assuming that they're not WAY out there). The motorcycle fits without problem in 1/3 to 1/2 of a parking space. It's like they made a parking spot just for me!!

That being said, when I drive the '05, I always try to park at the end of a row, like many other people have said. At work, I always try to park next to the nicest BMW or Mercedes that I can find if I can't get an end-spot.

NJ is obviously way behind the times. You guys don't have beef jerky drive thru windows like the rest of the country??

It seems to me that taking up two spaces draws unwanted situations that you are trying to avoid in the first place. I've seen people purposely messing with someones car because they've taken up two spaces (a couple of times after a sporting event, with the classic drunkards thinking they know all taking a whizz on someone's car).

And even parking on the end with the curb can be somewhat misleading. My friend used to purposely park like that, and scratched his chrome rims on the curb. So now he has a nice BMW M3 with 3 shiny wheels (I point this out to him everytime, and he gets mad).

I personally cringe everytime I come to work. I work at a high school and park my GT up front. The only solace I have is that all the kids think the car is 'tight' and don't do anything to it. They just sit back and admire. Which is nice, because another teacher bought a Beamer at the beginning of the year, and it got keyed the third day. But like I said, it was a Beamer.

I am lucky enough to have a Dad who has a Viper and lets me drive it around whenever I want to. He also has the "I own the car, not the other way around" philosophy, so he parks it where ever there is room (no dings or scratches yet). So one of my favorite things to do in it is park in the full space right next to a car that has taken up two spaces, usually a ricer or gen 4 Camaro/Firebird. Then I write "If only my car was cool enough for two spaces!" on a post-it and stick it on the window closest to the Viper. I like to imagine them feeling like an hiney when they come out and read the note after looking at the supercar next to them, parked in a single space.
I realize that some people do it because they want to protect their car and not because they believe they are better than the rest of us, but I still find it an inconsiderate thing to do.

I don't find it inconsiderate at all if you take up 2 spots in a parking lot that is very far from the entrance doors and there are hundreds of other spots available. I do find it very inconsiderate if you take up 2 spots directly in front of the store entrance.

Personally, I'd rather live with a ding caused by someone elses carelessness than live with the key marks caused, ultimately, by my own selfishness.
Well Said.

For all the guys worried about about getting hit, park at the back of a parking lot and walk a few extra feet. It's good exercise too!

I respectfully disagree - parking 200 yards from the entry of a store all by yourself and taking up 2 parking spots in order to avoid dings is not categorized under the word "selfishness". I would categorize it under the term "don't park your freakin car by my car cause I don't want door dings from some dimwit who doesn't give a darn about his/her freakin car".

Thanks.

And I do take up two spots - at all times. Have for years and have never been keyed.

There is no point to taking 2 spots when your that far away. You don't have to park in the very back. Just give yourself about 10 spaces back from the last group of parked cars. Then it's not as obvious.

I'm glad you haven't been keyed but you never know. There are all kinds of people out there.

I could care less one someone parks out and takes up two space. The point is that there are people who do care and will mess with your car for that very reason.

It makes you a more obvious target. I have seen people put drink cups and cans on roofs and hoods of these cars, people key cars, and seen people pushing shopping carts at cars parked like that in parking lots. I think it actually hurts your car more than it will help it.

Also just curious if you park so far out why you need to take 2 spaces? Parking out far would mean that most people arent going to park next to you. If someone does park next to you out there then they are trying to mess with you. If you are parked sideways that will further incite these unbalanced people.
