Subaru unveiling new Impreza in New York, WRX being dropped
Lordy, I hope it looks a lot better than that concept as the Imprezza/WRX line is quite impressive otherwise. If Subaru would only, finally, come up with some actual good looking cars, perhaps the current Legacy excepted, they'd rule the world.
That car isnt terrible looking (I guess that could be construed as a compliment), but as a replecement for the Impreza? Come on Subaru, you can do better. The WRX/Sti is their sportiest, most exciting car, and I can't believe they'd redesign it as such a boring looking car. I'd almost say that the new Camry has more soul than this car, but then I would probably burst into flames and die for speaking such heresy.
Okay. First of all please don't miss this addition to the end of the article:
Second of all, the the picture that Autoblog posted is the B5 TPH concept from a few years ago and Autocar reports for the UK market not the US market.
Third of all the most recent rumors are that while the STi most likely won't be available until later 2008 the WRX will indeed still be around. It is rumored that it will be a hatchback only model for the 2008 MY and then be available again in the sedan format with the release of the STi sedans.
Also there are performance packs that will be available as options for the WRX's to up the power closer to the range of the current STi's while the new STi's are rumored to be more in the 325 hp range.

And lastly one of the guys from Club WRX has confirmed with a Subaru rep that there will be a WRX in the U.S. market.
I think Autoblog jumped the gun on this lead.....
Autocar doesn't cite its source for this information, and it seems highly unlikely to us considering that Mitsubishi is planning to make its Lancer Ralliart more powerful than previous generations in an effort to face the WRX head on. All will be revealed in the Big Apple come April, but for now we sit and wait.

And then there were two...
tears on my keyboard. One was for Aston, and now, one is for Subaru.
There is no way they could replace the best looking thing they have had in years to something like this... Let's all pray now that we awake in the morning with pitchforks and torches in hand just to find newspaper headlines reading "just kidding TMS guys, you don't have to kill us"...
