SVT Performance has a pretty good thread going on about the Lightning being cancelled for awhile. Apparently they don't have a transmission to handle the power...

Yeah, they want to use an auto though, so it looks like we'll have to wait a couple of years before they get one that can handle the power.

Isn't there a company that does only automatic transmissions. Why don't they get a transmission from them.

They've should've taken care of this a long time ago. They knew where they wanted to go with the truck (as in HP) way before the 03/04s came out, they could have addressed it then, or at least had some idea as to how they were going to take care of the problem....that is if this is true, goodbye.

And Ford wonders why they are losing customers to other brands.

To think I actually believed they still had some car people running the company, instead it's a bunch of clueless corporate morons. What a shame, Ford has the ability to lead the industry, instead they throw in the towel, how disgusting..

Um...it's not quite that bad, just delayed at the most. Perhaps if you're willing to supply them with a billion dollars you have lying around so they can build a plant that can tool the right kind of transmission, then they'll have the product out next year Regardless, I don't think Ford is losing that many people to the Dodge SRT-10. That thing is fast, but you can't tow with it and the best is less than usable with that wing. Not to mention how freaking expensive it is.

Wait wait wait....so Ford, A TRUCK COMPANY, that has a deisel pickup that makes darn near 600 lb feet ot torque doesn't have a tranny to handle the s/c 5.4?

Is it just me or does this just seem to be a bunch of BS?

According to Stacey David on the TV show "Trucks." He said that Ford was going to design a lightning with over 500 horsepower. Like previously stated, they should go manual

Ford is not going to cancel the Lightning, plain and simple.

I believe that that 'other' super truck only comes in manual...why shouldn't the Lightning

(please spare me the "well than not everyone could drive it" argument... )

600lb=ft, but at low rpm, so it still only puts out about 350hp.
I woulda thought that it was the peak torque that matters most for the transmission, but i'm guessing not, if this news their giving us is true. But ya, slap on the 6-speed.

I think the manual would only work if it were a short-throw. I've read that the manual on the SRT-10 "inhales through a straw" because it's like a typical long-throw truck shifter. :notnice:

Well . . if they don't build a Lightning Ford should at least bring back the '04 Lightning engine for a new F-150 Harley. I like the F-250 Harley's but a F-150 would be nice, in my opinion.

In my opinion, anything BUT a stick in the Lightning would be absurd. I mean, if you're going to buy a race car (truck), why would you get an auto? Isn't the purpose of having a fast ride for it to go fast? Why would you want to slow it down?

well, as we've seen from MT's numbers on the 05 auto, it doesn't always have to slow it down that much.
I dunno, to me, autos are gonna just get replaced with CVTs somewhere down the line, but sticks;ll be around forever.

Hot Rod has a small clip saying the Lightning is just about ready to go.

they have been talking about the 500hp for a long time. This sounds like BS to me.
It will be built.
