And as many have said already, the 600 will have PLENTY of juice for you. The first few times you ride one until you are a bit more used to it, pay close attention to your speed, because you will be flying and not know it.

i like yamaha seca ii's, cheap and reliable. i just rode a 2007 r6, thats sick fast, sounds amazing too. buy a cheap crap bike for your first bike, its well worth it. NO ONE PLANS to lay a bike down, however while learning and riding in general there is no "if i lay it down" the term is "when i lay it down" Every rider will go down once in life if not more, just depends on when. I have been riding four years now, my bike is a 1985 yamaha maxim 700. i love it but its time to upgrade, looking at a yamaha road star warrior, a honda 919, a harley nightster, buying a seca ii, or a buell xb12s. all great bikes. I would stay at a 600-750 for a starter that you'll enjoy for a year or so then go from there. i wouldnt spend more than 2g's on a first bike though.
