Car and Driver says to expect pricing to start at about 25k for the standard six and closer to 35k for the turbo model. While I don't typically view CD as reliable I'd bet that's a good estimate if a bit conservative. Unfortunately you'll likely never see one of these on the lot for anything like the base price as it typically the case with BMW's. I'd say expect to drop more like 30k on the typical, naturally aspirated version of the 1 series that you will actually be able to find/order.

 

for that price why bother.. I'd much rather own a Mustang GT.

Agreed. At that price point the 1 Series may be serving more to bolster markets the 3-Series is leaving behind than to expand BMW's lineup further south in terms of price structure. And I don't think the looks are going to do this car any favors. The 2002 and E30 3-Series were both smaller cars than the upcoming 1 Series coupe but looked far better in every respect. This car looks like an economy car take on the BMW formula, and that isn't a good thing.

 

$20,000 for luxury car is hard to expect.

Even Infiniti G20 was $23,000.

 

I can deal with a 25k starting price for the naturally aspirated 1 Series, even if that does mean the car will be an absolute stripper arguably not qualifying as a luxury car. My problem is two-fold. First, you'll never actually find a 1-Series for that if BMW holds to their past attitude toward pricing. And second, 35,000 for the base turbo model is a bit on the steep side of things should that indeed prove to be the starting number.

 

the TT needs about $5K hacked off the price.

Otherwise its kinda nifty. not as bad looking as most new bimmers
