I dont see that happening, especially when you consider the current Mustang pulls double duty as a Mustang and Thunderbird and taking into account that Ford loves claiming the crown as pony car king by having the most horsepower.
A more compact and conversely lighter car is said to be in the works, but I wouldn't count on it being small enough to get down around 3000 lbs. Also I dont think Ford wants to go back to making 300hp V8s so its got to be rugged enough to handle 400+hp (more like 500-600)

I understand it will probably never be as light as under 3000 pounds, but a cross between the two sizes would be reasonable. Maybe split the difference and drop from 3600+ down to around 3200. And the 325-350 hp could be the V6 version since hp continues to climb.

Anyone remember the 2800 lb, 275 Hp RX-7? Wouldn't this be a great time to reproduce something like that? I mean this could really be the next thing since the RX-7, it's a little radical, has some great potential and with moderately more power could be a great car. I remember when that RX-7 was great and it was incredibly low in power compared to today's high performance cars. But truly a great car none the less.
