I took this picture at Volo Museum (Volo, IL). Its one of the cars that was actually used in a movie.

 

This brings back memories.. I used to be a VW line mechanic back in the 70's. One day our dealership's parts dept. was discarding some old inventory, including a complete Herbie the Love Bug stripe kit, which I kept. Then one lunch hour I installed the kit on another mechanic's early 60's white colored beetle, which I did without his knowledge. Boy was he surprised! He drove it like that for a couple weeks before removing it because he just didn't like all the attention, LOL.

 

That must be the stunt double.
