Ram 1500 Pickup to Get 3.0-Liter Diesel Option

http://wot.motortrend.com/report-chr...#axzz2KopDnmAU

Chrysler is set to offer a diesel engine in its Ram half-ton pickup, reports USA Today. The official announcement is expected to be made on Thursday. The decision was made based on internal research that pointed to considerable pent up demand for a diesel version of the Ram 1500, according to Ram CEO Fred Diaz, who was quoted in the report.
Predictably, the engine will be a version of the same 3.0-liter V-6 that powers the recently-announced 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel, sourced from Italy’s VM Motori. In the Jeep, it’s good for 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, but ratings are likely to be increased for truck duty. The price premium, meanwhile, should be well short of the nearly $8000 commanded by the Cummins I-6 in the Ram HD. Expect the engine to be available starting with the 2014 model year Ram 1500 lineup.

I think for the Truck its hp/trq will be revised.
Thats a heck of a premium $8,000,

Is that how much the Ecoboost is over a standard V6?

Look at the torque number. 420 lb ft torque is more than the 5.7L Hemi V8 makes ...

I wish Ford would follow up with a 3.2L I5 from the Transit in the F-150.

Yeah its good torque, but i mean theyre ganna have to up the hp. And yeah ford will find someway to answer it. Ecoboost is still ganna be the pick over it im bettin cause its gas which is cheaper, still efficient and there so powerful

UPDATE: Chrysler has made it official. Beginning in the third quarter of this year, the 2014 Ram 1500 will offer the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The truck will officially be called the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

They are using the $8000 figure from the HD RAM.... to put that into perspective the F250 6.7 is a $8000 option as well.

The Dodge diesel guys I know want it for the Cummins. They tell you they hold their nose at the Dodge part. lol Don't know if these ranchers are going to go for an Italian diesel that is unproven here in the US.

Fiat's MultiJet diesels are actually some of the best in the world when it comes to quality.

I think they have a winner if it indeed gets around 20/27. Around here diesel is usually the same price as premium. Sometimes less.

I'm excited to see what comes of this. Would love to drive one and the new Titan V8 Cummins. Which blows my mind.
