It looks like pretty much every other Golf since Mark IV.
It will still be the best seller, no doubt about that.

Yep, no doubt.
The Golf in an interesting car in that it appeals to those that just want reliable A to B transport AND it appeals to enthusiasts......well, Golf enthusiasts, anyway
A few years back my wife had a Mk3 GTi (roly poly puddin' of a car) but it went well and I briefly enjoyed the "VeeDub" scene.

Back home I have a 2002 Golf 1.9L TDI, that I drive when I visit.
It's boring as hell, but its reliable, with a very high resale value.

First Drive

Should I buy one?
Yes. The Golf is precisely the globally appealing and useful car it needs to be. The desirability stakes have been upped, and it is generally a sharper, more complete package. It is a VW Golf, purified.
Best in class? Ford should be very worried indeed.

That's a good looking, no doubt high quality, interior. I love that steering wheel, too.
The GTi has just enough flourish to stand out, but the standard cars are just too dull for me.
I'd take a Focus over a Golf......although that's probably partly due to my love of Fords

I'm really starting to like this new Golf. I was never a big fan of newer VWs, but this Golf really looks good.
Would I take it over Focus? Well, it's $1,200 cheaper, is available as a 2 door and has more power, so most likely yes.

Volkswagen May Build Next Golf in Mexico
Volkswagen may build the next-generation Golf hatchback at its factory in Puebla, Mexico, in addition to current locations in Germany. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen might confirm plans to build the American-spec Golf in Mexico within the next few weeks.

This car rocks!!!

Powered by a heavily reworked version of VW's ubiquitous 2.0-litre diesel, power has risen by a significant 10bhp to 148bhp, although torque remains unchanged at 236bhp. Added to weight reduction, this is enough to allow VW to slice 0.7sec off its 0-62mph claim, which is now reached in a brisk 8.6sec while top speed rises a less significant 4mph to 134mph.
But the biggest change is to fuel consumption. At 55.4mpg, few would have called the old Golf thirsty but, officially at least, the new car returns 68.9mpg

I don't get it. Why in the US do we have small cars bragging about 40mpg, why is chevys new cruze diesel only able to get 46mpg? How do they get 20+mpg better?
Its also hard to compare numbers sometimes as UK gallon is larger than US gallon so it inflates the mpg figure that they show compared to what it would be here.

I think European EPA is different than the one in the USA, but in the end you still get the same real world numbers.
My Golf 1.9L diesel is getting a little better gas mileage than Volkswagens with the newer 2.0L diesel engine. I'm not sure what the EPA's numbers are, but I've been averaging 40-45 mpg city.
