Porsche accuses Nissan GT-R of cheating the 'Ring

Porsche believes Nissan must have cheated to record its 7:29:03 lap time of the famed Nürburgring race circuit. Porsche claims that it had been suspicious of the Nissan's lap times, so it acquired a U.S.-spec GT-R for testing back-to-back with its own 911 Turbo and GT2. The result? The mighty Godzilla was toppled by the Teutonic German duo, with the GT-R posting times a good 25-seconds slower than Nissan's claim.

Maybe Nissan used Sabine Schmidt

I thought everyone cheated? Flying starts, not using the full lap, tinkering with the cars, etc?

Yeah seriously this is why I never took ring times seriously everyone BS's them now that they've become the end all be all of vehicle benchmarking recently.

There are no rules. so manufactures can do whatever they want. I had suspisition the GTR was a little too good. but now that porsche did their own testing useing the same method on the GTR they do with their cars we should be able to compare those times.

Basically there are no rules. Check my thread here for a good article that gives you a sense of the validity of Nurburgring times

I'd rather see an independant test. I wouldn't trust numbers from Porsche or Nissan.

but i doubt either manufacturer is gonna own up a car for a unbiased test especially at this time now that either company can look like a complete idiot (for making the claims and disputing them saying they are faster). Now if said unbiased company could come up with both cars from car owners or something, then that'd be sweet

It's not like this is going to affect people who are buying these cars, no matter how biased the testing is, if your dropping 90k+ it's probably just another number to spout of while attempting to race

I'd like to see that done and even include the Z06. as if porsches numbers are correct the gtr actually runs 7:54 which is slower then gms 7:43 claim of the Z06.

I don't beleive nissans claim of 7:29 but i also think 7:54 is way to slow for the car.

If you want a fair comparo the last place id look is top gear maybe fifth gear or Evo magazine but not top gear.

Watch top gear launch the C6, its mediocre at best. Definitely not unbiased
