Pontiac G8 Monthly Sales Thus Far for the 2008MY
The 2009 models haven't shown up yet, but they are getting close so now would seem like a good time to evaluate G8 sales for the year thus far.
March 2008: 777 units
April 2008: 2,126 units
May 2008: 1,831 units
June 2008: 1,536 units
July 2008: 1,472 units
Total: 7,742 units or 1,548 units per month
That means that this car is currently on track to sell fewer than 20k units per year. Make of that what you will.

Exactly. Here comes the 'new' new GTO, same as the 'old' new GTO. Sadly, while I am obviously joking at the Generals expense I would argue that to be a pretty accurate assessment since GM made most of the same mistakes with the G8 that they did with the GTO.

The only exception to the above I can think of at the moment is the first gen Focus, with the likely keys to success there being that models entry into what was an amazingly bland C segment. Of course, that doesn't mean Focus was the best solution, just a better one than the alternatives we had previously been receiving.

Only a matter of time until rebates really kick in, right now employee pricing should let you nab a base 2008 V8 model for about 28k. At the moment GM is apparently mulling over the idea of not including the 2009MY G8 in any employee pricing scheme, but if sales stay this low I can't imagine rebates not going well beyond simple employee pricing. If the rebated price tag on the V8 model creeps down toward 25k, as it did with the GTO for a time, I might have to take a second look myself. Outside of that my previous poor experience with GM as a whole and the G8's bland looks will continue to rule it out for me.
Still, my advice to anybody who wants one of these is to get it now, since Ican't imagine G8 is long for our market at this rate.

If I could get a G8 V6 for under $20,000 I would definitely buy it.

I doubt new ones will actually go south of $20k even w/rebates. They'd kill importation for a few weeks/months to sell off inventory before they marked 'em down that far....

So it sounds like any auto manufacturer looking to boost sales and get more mainstream people to buy cars should read what commenters on Autoblog want -- and totally ignore them.

Well, these sales are at least better than sales for the faux GTO for a similar length of time--which sold only forty-four thousand and some in it's entire run from 2004 through 2007. In fact, more Mustangs were sold in the first thirty business days of 2007 than GTOs were sold in the entire year of 2006. I posted these figures in an earlier posting which is no doubt still around somewhere if anyone wants to bother to look 'em up...
