Yeah - Chip Foose can do some awesome things with a car. That paint job was beautiful. Of course, they all have been so far!
That guy better keep it in the garage this time or it'll get stolen for real!!

Pimp my ride is the ghetto crap version of overhaulin..all they car about are rims and LCD screens...all of them are no talent wanna be customizers. Chip and his crew are the real deal.
Chip has the talent and the awards to back his stuff up. His cars are all style and speed. Everyone of them is beautiful!

I saw the "Pimp my Ride" folks on Leno doing Stuttering Johns Jeep. It looked better then before but I'm not into 20's and watching TV while I drive. I haven't seen either show, they don't have it on Armed Forces TV in Iceland.

Troy Trepanier is also a rather good custom designer/builder!
BM this Cuda is for you, a current Rad Rides project:
(I think that is a Chip Foose drawing of the Cuda.)

That's like telling someone " I have a really nice looking Corvette.......................................... ....on blocks under the shade tree"

I saw the Pimp my Ride with the '81 Trans Am. They put a MAKE-UP TRAY in the trunk, and an ESPRESSO MACHINE in the armrest!
They should change the name of the show to "Kill my Resale Value."

Look, I agree an expresso machine in the console is about the stupidest thing I've ever seen, but the cars they get on Pimp My Ride are in such horrid shape that doing anything to them at all is an act of love. They've pimped two mustangs that I've seen and while I wouldn't pay $30,000 for the mods on either of them, these are cars that should have been taken to the junk yard years ago and instead they're a celebration of the love between a teenager and his/her car.
I'd be curious to know if they do anything at all about the mechanical problems on these cars, but the owners drive them home and in some cases the cars didn't look like they could have done that before West Coast got hold of them.
If you watch the show as a comedy rather than as a car restoration program I think you'll get a kick out of it.

I look at it as both, and I love it. You forget when you whine about the things they do that the idea is to do a real customization, literally to the likes and needs of the driver. The makeup and espresso machine went into that Trans Am because the girl who they were customizing it for was a young businesswoman on the go. There was also a little coat rack-ish thing that utilized a power antenna motor and a clothes steamer in the trunk. I should also add that on this program they might not give these cars new engines and transmissions, but they rebuild each and have them working like new. MTV knows most of its audience can't be bothered with such details though, so they stick to featuring the more "wow, look at that" parts of the customizations.
West Coast Customs is a damned fine outfit. Except for the hideous interior they gave that Fox-body convertible, they've never produced anything I actively disliked on that show, or on their website gallery.
