Wow! If nothing else, this thread makes me happy I've always used synthetic oil in my cobras! You can never be too careful with a handbuilt engine like this.
I still love my '96 and haven't had the heart to part with her. Even with the low torque robbing swirl-port heads. The Borg -Warner T45 is another story. What a piece of junk!!!! :bang:

And to expand on the jobs, don't forget the companies who ship the cars, the dealerships, mechanics, etc.
Don't forget about the millions in taxes that these plants provide to their communities, states, and the federal government. Many also donate cash to local schools and community projects.

By here do you mean in the Virginia area or in the US, i didnt know of any auto plants in VA
There's a Ford Truck Assembly plant in South Norfolk, VA. That's the only one I know of.

Zoran, thanks for the post This is very true as it has hit one of my co-workers sons. He had the same problem described and had to fork over a hair over $5,000 for a new engine and then had to fight for a year to get his money back. He even had his oil changed every 3,000 miles religously. They told him that they would only cover it if he had had it changed by a dealership. Well to that he called their bluff and took legal action.

This did hit a few newspapers but it should rightly have been on the news channels. Maybe the more word we spread the more awareness we can raise I think it would change a lot of people's minds about this company's projected reliability.

The main thing to remember is just what others have said. Change your oil about every 3,000 miles. Zoran has the right idea, its better to be safe than sorry on oil. I know Honda says every 5,000 miles for my wife's Element but I just don't buy that.

This was a great post Zoran! Kudos! If I could shake your hand through the computer I would

Take a look over your shoulders and take a look at the next economic wave that is coming; it's called China and the corporations from this country cannot build plants over there fast enough.
So keep on supporting these foriegn built products pretty soon you will all be out of a job.

Glad I have a job that will never be outsourced to a foreign country.

In the scope of Toyota's millions-strong customer base, the approximately 3,100 consumers to date who have complained to the company about sludge - 2,400 Toyota owners and 700 Lexus owners - is microscopic. The group consists of less than .01 percent of Toyota owners in the United States.

Why does the writer feel the need to defend Toyota in the quote above? The press never does this for Ford or GM.

His logic is flawed. Just because only 3,100 customers complained doesn't mean it isn't a serious issue. There are probably thousands of people that have the problem and don't even know it yet.

I also read that Daimler Chrysler had major recalls on their cars due to the same problem - sludge. Chrysler wouldn't pay for the irrepairable damages and people with Durangos, Stratus, Intrepid and Neons were out of luck. there was a dateline on it about a year ago.
