Officially official: RIP Pontiac

I found this to be a decent article summing up the history.

Today's pontiac was little more than a rebadged Chevy... far lost from it's 70's glory.
For me one of my favorite Pontiacs will always be the 1969 GTO's
RIP Pontiac.

By the late 1980s, though, Pontiacs were taking off their muscle shirts, putting on suits and trying to act like other cars. The brand had lost its edge.
Bill Hoglund, a retired GM executive who led Pontiac during its "We Build Excitement" ad campaigns in the 1980s, blames the brand's demise on a reorganization under CEO Roger Smith in 1984. That overhaul cut costs by combining Pontiac's manufacturing, engineering and design operations with those of other GM brands.
"There was no passion for the product," says Hoglund. "The product had to fit what was going on in the corporate system."

Wha??? No Fiero Fans?
The 1984 Fiero was the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 for 1984, beating out the new 1984 Chevrolet Corvette for the honor.

G8 isnt the best name around, but it made sense with their new G# nomenclature.
as for the car, its soooooo good. i drove a G8 GT, not even a top of the line GXP. the car is just as, if not more, composed than my dads BMW and its much faster than my Bullitt (even when the car isnt full of all the junk i keep in it ) it is a truly fantastic machine. Its definitely something I'm going to look to snag a few years down the line if i need a "family" car
up until the new SHO it was, in my eyes, the best sedan you could buy from an American company in decades. Its definitely something I'm going to look to snag a few years down the line if i need a "family" car
I love fieros mid engine and V8able? of course i love it!

I totally got the G8, in GT and especially GXP versions. Basically, a working man's BMW E39 M5 for half the price. Clean, sophisticated yet understated good looks, powerful V8s, even a stick in the GXP, great chassis dynamics and braking, loads of room and comfort and again, a fantastic value for the car enthusiast with a family to lug around. The GXP was nearly as fast as the current 5.0 Stang (13's @110mph in the quarter) and the GT with the 4.6 Stang (mid-upper 13's at a bit over 100mph), yet four doors for the wife and kids and a huge trunk for the bodies.
I think this will be one car that will be far more appreciated in a few years than it was when available and that the limited number of GXPs will attain quasi collectible status. Boy, if a mint, low mileage GXP with a stick shows up on Craig's list, my ol' M3 might be shown the (garage) door.

I love G8. Two years ago when I bought my '08 Mustang GT I was actually looking for a G8 GT. It was pretty pricey (G8 just came out at that time) so I went with a Mustang.
