New Mustang is slack. Lets pit Ford America against Ford Australia!!!

Ford Falcon XR6 (non-turbo):
Engine: 4.0 litre 24-valve inline6
Power output: 182kW @ 5000rpm (245hp)
Torque: 380Nm @ 3250rpm (280lb-ft)
Body: Steel, 4 Doors, 5 seats
Drivetrain: Front engine, rear drive
Kurb Weight: 1710kg
Transmission: 6 speed manual/4 speed sequential sports-shift automatic
Fuel Consumption: 12.5L/100km
Performance: 0-100km/h in 7.2 secs, 0-100m in 15.1 secs
Price: $39,990AUS

Ford Falcon GT:
Engine: 5.4 litre 32-valve V8
Power Output: 290kW @ 5500rpm (390hp)
Torque: 520Nm @ 4250rpm (385lb-ft)
Body: Steel, 4 doors, 5 seats
Drivetrain: Front engine, rear drive
Kurb Weight: 1797kg
Transmission: 6 speed manual/4 speed sequential sports-shift automatic
Fuel Consumption: 15L/100km
Performance: 0-100km/h in 5.6 secs, 0-400m in 13.9 secs
Price: $59,990AUS

These 2 cars kill the Mustangs in exterior and interior looks, luxuary features, practicality, ride comfort & price range.
The only thing they lose against is straight line acceleration where the Mustangs are slightly quicker although they run less powerful engines.

Here's the previous version (2002) of the Ford Falcon:

Has around 340hp and 370lb-ft torque from a 5.6 litre pushrod V8.

Here's the sports utility version of the 2001 Ford Falcon 'Pursuit':

Also uses that same 5.6 litre V8!

At a glance...

1035hp from a Ford XR6T engine
Fat, useable torque curve
High strength internals
7500 rpm limit
AUD$40k+ build
The absolute XR6T benchmark

I cant get the rest of the article as you gotta pay for it and well... screw that!

But you can imagine what its gonna be like. This engine is awesome!!
Because its so large and powerful and able to handle boost well it sets a high benchmark in engine modifications.
Knowing that the engine is capable of such enormous levels of horsepower without becoming unstable is very interesting.
This would be a good thing for the tuner market!
I cant see why Ford of America isnt interested in getting their hands on this Aussie engine and model.
Its a large 4 door family sedan with space and practicality but also real guts and menacing looks. Not to mention rear wheel drive!

This thing poops over the Ford Taurus and Crown Victoria!
Its the Australian version of the mustang yet has more fuctionality to it than just going fast in a straight line.

Here's the new Falcon ute:

5.4 Litre, 32-valve V8. 390hp, 380lb-ft torque.
Theres a special D.ick Johnson Racing version going around with 420hp and 395lb-ft however a supercharged version is being considered at the moment.

Ford/FPV F6 Typhoon:

Okay sure, you might not agree that this is a sexy looking car but the stats on it are more creative than anything Ford of America has ever decided to make.
Engine: Turbocharged 4.0 litre 24-valve inline 6
Power output: 380hp @ 5250rpm
Torque: 420lb-ft @ 2000rpm
There arent any performance times available as of yet but you'd imagine this thing would pull circles around a Skyline.

The only thing better about that car is the engine. The looks are sweet for a sedan, but nothing beats a Mustang for looks.

Falcon GT goes for 45,000 US, not really in the same class as the Mustang

If you have a problem with American built cars don't come to this site period. It is a mustang site not a Ford Falcon Australia site.

I dont have a problem with American Mustangs. Infact I love them just like any other Ford but I'm just trying to prove a point that Ford of America could do a better job with their cars if they really wanted to.
Over in Australia with our Fords, we dont have to sacrifice luxuary for horsepower, nor practicality for good looks.
They are ofcourse more expensive than Mustangs but you get what you pay for. We have higher standards on car quality.

Ok I'm gonna put on my mod hat here.
First off GTS you are welcome to post your opinions here of course. This board has a few memebers that are completey dedicated to the aussie cars. I am one of them. I am in full agreeance that Ford America can learn a thing or two from Ford Au. Now that being said Please be a bit more specific on your points right up front so no one will get on the defensive.

Once again thank you for joining and please remeber that you are on an american board..just think how you;d have felt if one of us posted on the Ford aussie board teh exact same post you did..just substituting our cobra and lightning in for the falcons and utes. You guys would have been on the defensive just as our guys got. So please take that into consideration. Mod hat coming off.

Now that being said:
Yes you do get what you pay for but i'd have to say that our Cobra will thrash a falcon hands down any day of the week. Now i for one would be the first in line if the Falcon was brought over here. But i think that it should be in addition to the stable. I think the new Mustang is a step i the right direction for Ford to do a better job as you say.

BTW i'd kill for a GTS!

I appreciate your love for the Falcon, but I'd have to say it looks a little boring on the outside. Kinda reminds me of a '00 Pontiac Grand Prix or something in that vain.

There will always be something out there faster than a Mustang....there will always be something out there that might be a little bit nicer inside than a Mustang. I don't know if there is a car that has it's owners show as much devotion to it. Or draws new customers/drivers to it, just because it is a Mustang.

But a Mustang is a style all its own...it's a rolling monument to America, all of the things that are good and right about the USA. Speed, style, affordability and quality in a mass produced vechile.

I think it says something when a new model rolls off the line and there are people that flock to dealerships just to see it. It says something when the first Mustang arrives in Europe and the news media shows up.

The Mustang IS America, as far as I'm concerned.

But hey, that's just my $.02.

We will be getting a Falcon based Crown Vic in a few years, but like I've said before, a 'Ute' style car would probably fall flat on its face here...

That is a really nice looking GTHO concept there!

Yeah I understand what you mean.
Hey we are 2 different countries with 2 different car markets. Us Aussies love our 4 door V8s while you Americans love your coupes.
The Mustang was sold over here in Australia for a little while some time ago but not many were sold. Personally I would've loved one but the general public rather went for the Falcons.
I'm guessing the same would probably happen if the Falcons were sold in America however it would be a great car to replace Ford's current Taurus as the ideal family sedan.
