After reading read nothing but horror stories about all the oil the RX-8 burns, I can't for the life of me figure how it won the "2004 International Engine of The Year" (2.5 - 3.0 liter category).
Alright, I'll step in on this one. I currently own an RX8 and I love it. But I am selling it NOT because it burns oil (which it is supposed to), but rather it is to small to haul anything. And I can't get over the power and torque of an American V8.

The RX8 has oil injectors to lubricate the apex seals. Yes, you must check the level religiously(every 1000 miles). I just think it's ignorant for some people to misjudge other vehicles when they DON'T do their research first...
Read up before you make false conclusions. It's not that hard. BTW, it's not a 2.5 - 3.0.. More like 1.3L..

Sorry, had to vent. K, feel better now.. [/b][/quote]
My RX7TT lasted 11k miles before bursting into flames.... But it did use a lot of oil, its normal. They are cool engines, but in higher stress use like TT they tend to only last about 80k miles.

Yep.. exactly why the last generation RX7's never lasted. The TT were causing the engine to run to hot. Mazda screwed up with that car. Beautiful ride nonetheless.. These engines can last well over 100k if maintained properly. I've seen one in person in the 300k without a rebuild..

gen 3. By screw up I meant that Mazda didn't provide a very good cooling system for the motor. The TT were blowing Apex seals like crazy.. Otherwise, that car was sweeettt!!
