The guy running the cars couldnt drive, he rolled the tires through water then just floored it, he should of powerbraked it right their to get all the water off, but instead he just launched it with the tires still having water on them because just a quick squeel isnt going to evaporate all the water, and he wonders why the 400+ hp cars only ran low 14s

14's for a Hemi Challenger isn't bad at all. You're forgetting that those cars weighed substantially more than the cars of today.
Also, if they were stock tires, thats not bad whatsoever.

440+6 Challenger run 1/4 mile in 13.7 sec, so Hemi should be even faster.

You also have to adjust for altitude and temperature too. A car in Denver will run much slower than a car at a track at sea level.

With an expert driver though. If I took my Mustang down the 1/4 I would probably clock in at about 14.4, but Jim Campisano from MM&FF could probably push 13.9-14.0 (which he has).

I didn't see it, but was I around during that era and I drove a number of muscle cars including 427 Vettes. If you read the articles in car mags from that period you'll find that those cars weren't as fast as we think they were. Yes, they were the pinnacle of performance then, but cars today are faster, handle better and are so much more reliable. What they don't offer is the styling and appeal of those oldies but goodies.
The truth is that we're living in the best days ever for performance automobiles. Having said that, I'd still like to have my first new car back. It was a 1970 SS350 Camaro. I had wanted a grabber blue Boss 302 but couldn't close the deal before I got transferred. That's a story for another time, kiddies.
