Meeting another Muscle Machine on the road: friendly or hostile?
Meeting another Muscle Machine on the road: friendly or hostile?
What's your experience when running into other performance cars on the road? Do you aknowledge the other driver? Do you "mess" with them? Do you smile and wave? How does it go?
I much prefer the friendly approach. I think the tribal "Ford guy/Chebby guy/ Mopar guy" thing is seriously low-brow and owning and driving these cars is a lot more fun when the communication is kept on a friendly level.
I came across a VERY noisy (and awesome sounding) Challenger SRT8 on the highway yesterday. Traffic was heavy but he revved the hell out of it on the on-ramp and joined the traffic ahead of me. I worked my way up next to him and gave him the thumbs up and blipped the throttle and we went back and forth like that. It was cool to see a fellow V8 junky enjoying his toy and to hear the motor wind up...and I suspect he was happy that the guy who just "bought a 12 second car" wasn't out to put him in his place.
If there was less traffic, the "throttle blipping" might have gone a bit farther but I didn't feel like I had to prove anything and it appeared that he didn't either. So...we went on our way without commiting any serious traffic infractions, and smiles on our faces.
There's a lot of trash talking and BSing that goes on with our testosterone mobiles...but its a lot more fun when egos and manhood aren't on the line.
Just my opinion.

Perfectly said. At the end of the day, they are all American muscle cars. Acknowledging each other on the road is much better than a pissing contest.
HOWEVER,
When i have a little Honda Civic ricer on my ***...GAME OVER.

I agree... if I could have one of each I would. I have driven all 3 and like them all, the Mustang a little better. They are all American muscle Pony cars, and I will always respect that. I love talking and sharing ideas with fellow muscle car owners doesn't matter if it's ford, chevy, dodge. It's all good....it's American muscle.
Agreed - I'm a car guy and will always give props when its due - be it import or domestic. If someone wanted to run me really quickly I'm sure I would given the right circumstances - if he's faster, that just means he put more money into the car - there will always be something faster on the street or at the track. Doesn't bruise my ego.

I do it all in fun, it just about having a good time in my American
Muscle car. Yep, I'm with you. I even had one two weeks ago in a riced out civic hatchback. He was reving the engine at the stop light with his fart can. So me being the funny guy I am with the GF in the car took my bone stock, mint green, 2.5L Altima and poped it up in to neutral and reved my engine. Well at that point he was going to race, needless to say my stock granny sedan walked away from him. I gave up at 40mph and let him go.
Not me. I'm racing for pinks so that when I win I can siphon out his gas all over the exterior of his car and light it on fire in front of him whilst laughing maniacally.
j/k. I'm always nice to folks. If they aren't nice, they aren't worth my time.

Love blippin the throttle when i come across other v8's (:
Hearin their exhaust, mine, and both in unison! It puts a huge smile on my face and makes me proud to own an AMERICAN machine! If were serious we head to the track and run there just for fun. But if a lil ricer comes up to me, GOODBYE >
