I think he clearly hints at Chrysler as being "one of Detroit's Big 3 dying off in the not-too-distant future":
Would the end of the Daimler-Chrysler cooperation mean the end on Chrysler altogether? Maybe we'll see.
Rather than talking about a GM/Chrysler deal, Lutz discussed the breakdown in the Renault-Nissan talks. "Generically, synergies are easier to get in the same geography than across geographies," he said. "That was the problem with Renault-Nissan. What sane auto company would sign up for that?"
Chrysler seems to be the one that is in the worst position currently, especially if Daimler separates from them.
Ironically, when Mercedes was financial trouble a few years ago they used Chrysler money to help them along. Now that Chrysler's in trouble, it's time to dump them. Merger of equals huh?

Maby not die, but assimilated, with Chrysler or Ford most likely to become part of the Borg.
Talk about salt in the wound, Chrysler annonced a 500,000 unit recall involving Dodge Durangos and Jeep Liberties today. Fire risk concerning under dash wiring.
Also, some 11,000 '08 Avengers for door latches.

IMHO, Chrysler is dead already. The writing is on the wall.
But if Ford doesn't get its act together soon - and I mean REALLY soon - they might be next. When you mortage the farm in order to keep operating the farm, you're in deep ka-ka.
