This story is why I'm paranoid of modding my car in California. I'm in Korea right now and will be stationed right by Roseville California in November. I'm picking up my mustang in November and I see this on the internet. I'm really anxious to join my family and pick up my new car but I really don't want to deal with this.

The way the article reads if you having racing stripes on your car you are subject to being pulled over. I don't/would not race on public streets and this is my first mustang...my first muscle car period.

I see more and more of this from California, is this a trend nation wide? Another example of a few offenders (street racers/not modders) making life heck for the remainder of us. Has anyone's mustang been searched by law enforcement?

well if your not racing at the time what are they going to do?
" excuse me sir but you seem to love making your car unique and, well you must be a street racer so we are going to impound it for 30 days and recommend you have your left pinky removed as a warning"

What exactly is illegally equipped for street racing? Are they gonna bust them and put in jail for 90 days because they're driving to the track with slicks on?

it would seem that police seem to care less and less every day about 4th amendment rights. Its just sad.

FYI, over a year ago, in Ontario, if you modded the engine/exhaust in anyway you got a ticket. If the engine was modded for performance they would impound the car. The laws have always been there but not enforced until all of the street racing started after Fast and the Furious was released. A few of my friends are officers and they were told to start pulling over cars that looked like they had been modified for racing. However, they were really only targeting Honda's, cavaliers and sunfires. Mustangs were mainly getting busted when the driver was doing something stupid.

WHAT!!!? I never heard of that in Canada, no mods at all? Is that just for Ontario, or is that all of us Canucks?

PS- the whole thing is a load of crap. Just another reason to hate ricers. What will they ruin next?

The police in Ontario, Canada have started an initative to crack down on street racing activities. They call it Project ERASE.

They have set up shop, including a mobile e-test station outside one of the big import shows in the Toronto area. They are trying to crack down on illegal mods. While I commend their efforts on cracking down on illegal mods, they havent gone far enough to educate the guys modding the cars.

They have however posted a link where you can see what's legal and not which could help you avoid a ticket
Project ERASE

It's pretty darn fascist-like if you ask me.

more so, it's bull

What about the cars that COME with Turbos, Superchargers, Upgraded Exhaust, Visual enhancements, etc?

What? are cars like the 07 Shelby GT500, Subaru ImprezaWRX STI, Sport Trac Adrenalin, and the Lightnings going to be outlawed now?

This is what happens when you get the government overstepping their bounds to "help you out".

This really doesn't surprise me in CA or in Canada, in both places the government butts into a lot of things that shouldn't be any of their business. Well none of their business in America anyway, I'm not sure what the rights are in Canada.

Don't worry about it. I live about an hour away from Roseville and here there plenty of modded cars with stickers etc and being stopped is only going to happen if you are doing something stupid in your car.. Most of the drivers I have seen pulled over are young and speeding was usually the cause. The CHP had a zero tolerance policy on Highway 49 and I-80 near Sacramento. They made a big announcement and then started to write tickets for 1 over. I have heard they are still doing this, so be careful and watch your speed.

I'm not too far from Grass Valley...very nice area. I'm in Wheatland close to Beale AFB. That's good to know about the local police. Can you suggest any good shops for striping, mods, etc. in the local area?

Thanks

They don't call it the People's Republic Of California for nothing!!!
Maybe if you buy a hybrid to offset it it would make them feel better! (sarcasm intended)

The law enforcement has been stretched thin with street racing, i see their point of what they're doing, but man, they are strict!

Well not my choice about being stationed there (California). Moving comes along with military life. I have about 4 years to retire so I guess I better learn to like it there. After I retire from the Air Force I'll decide to stay or not. Right now....I'm stuck. I've been stationed in alot worse places around this world. I'll probably mod the car anyway as I have no intention of street racing and usually military IDs come in pretty handy with the law (most are prior military).

As far as the People's Republic of California..I'm told CA has the 4/5 largest economy in the world.....amazing.
