Guys,

Can anyone help me find out which U.S. states require license plates both on the rear AND front of the car and which ones don't? In those states that would usually require two plates - are there any circumstances under which you could drive a car with only one license plate at the rear? Did these regulations change over time?

During my travels through the U.S. I noticed several times that there seem to be different rules in different states.

The reason I'm asking may seem funny - I am planning to "upgrade" my extensive diecast model car collection with "personalized plates", i.e. stickers looking like license plates, and I want it to look absolutely authentic.

Thanks for any hint on this one.

A.G.

You guys are SO great!!! And this is truly the best automotive forum I can think of.

Thanks everyone for their answers.

P.S. When I'm done with my diecast model "upgrades", I will post a couple of pics but it may take a while because we are going to move to another house in August...

So on that list 1 stand for only 1 license plate and 2 stands for both license plates?

Weird, because on that list both Idaho and Wisconsin require both license plates. I lived in both of those states and two of my cars have bra and neither one of them have front license plate. Camry also don't have front license plates even though it doesn't have bra.

Actually, PA only requires the rear, not both.
