Pretty nice ride IMO, but i'm sure it has a hefty price tag along with it.

PREMIUM SPORTS TOURER EMPHASIZES PERFORMANCE

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 26, 2004- Land Rover has released the first photographs of Range Rover Sport, an entirely new vehicle from the world's leading sport-utility vehicle manufacturer. A true performance vehicle, Range Rover Sport is optimized for fast, comfortable long-distance driving. The addition of Range Rover Sport marks the fifth nameplate for the brand and complements the flagship Range Rover.

Powered in top-line form by a supercharged 390hp 4.2-liter V8 engine, Range Rover Sport will deliver the highest degree of power ever available on a Land Rover model. A normally aspirated V8 engine option will also be available.

Excellent on-road dynamics are delivered through Land Rover's new Dynamic Response suspension system and performance-tuned chassis. The innovative system, making its debut on Range Rover Sport, senses cornering forces and acts to optimize body control and handling. It also decouples off-road to allow greater wheel articulation during tough all-terrain driving.

"Range Rover Sport takes us into the growing performance SUV market, but is different from all rivals," says Matthew Taylor, Managing Director of Land Rover. "We see it as a less frenetic, more refined alternative to existing performance SUVs. It is ideal for fast, comfortable, long-distance driving and practical enough for everyday use. Yet it is also exceptional off-road, offering better all-terrain ability than any competitor. Like all Land Rover products, it offers the broadest range of capability in its class."

With its aerodynamic and muscular exterior design, Range Rover Sport's stance is powerful and aggressive. The five-door body style with single-piece rear aluminum tailgate adds to the dynamic look and feel of the vehicle.

"It is the best 'driver's vehicle' that Land Rover has ever made," adds Taylor. "There is the traditional Land Rover command driving position, yet the cockpit is more cocooning than the SUV norm."

Range Rover Sport will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January, and will be available in North America in summer of 2005.

Pricing and detailed specification will be announced closer to launch date, but is expected to fit between LR3 and Range Rover in the Land Rover product range.

Land Rover North America is part of Aston Martin Jaguar Land Rover with headquarters in Irvine, California. Land Rover established operations in the U.S. in 1986, and now imports and distributes Range Rover, LR3 and Freelander vehicles manufactured by Land Rover in Solihull, England. Land Rover's worldwide operations are wholly owned by Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, Michigan. For information about the Land Rover retailer nearest you, call 800-FIND-4WD or log on to www.LandRoverusa.com.

Vehicle specifications and features are subject to change. For the latest Land Rover pricing and product information, contact Land Rover North America Corporate Communications at (949) 341-5800. Land Rover-related press releases and electronic photos of the company's products are available on-line in the Land Rover section of Ford Motor Company's news media website (media.landrover.com).

Cool!

Glad to see a Ford engine in the Rover instead of the BMW engine. Oh . . like the Mach-like tailpipes too!

Wow. My new favorite SUV from my favorite SUV maker. I'd prefer the standard HSE interior, however.

ya know, judging by the amount of lights on the front of it, assuming they are all HID, that things gotta be bright as heck coming towards you!

Of the lights that are in the main cluster

Turn Signal
Sidelight (on when dipped beam or main is on or on own)
Dipped beam (turns off when main beam is on)
Main beam

Then you have the fogs, all in all, it shouldn't look much different to normal, with the HID's, each "bulb" has to be in it's own gas field, therefore, you get than "Knobbly" look, kinda like the new Audi's......

I kind of like that--maybe it will replace our Mountaineer in a few years?

The 2006 Land Rover Range Rover uses a JAGUAR 4.2l supercharged V-8. It is NOT a Ford V-8. Jaguar made a 4.0l V-8 for the 1997 Jaguar XK8.

The 05 Land Rover LR3 uses a modified Jaguar 4.4l V-8.

The following link has great info on Jaguar's V-8, V-12, and I-6.

http://www.jagweb.com/aj6eng/v8_performance.html

This is a 4.5l Jaguar V-8 that Rocketsports Racing uses in the Trans-Am series. They won last year and this year. It is based on the N/A'd 4.2l Jaguar V-8 that is used in production Jaguars. It has 650 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque and a 9,000 rpm redline.

Here is a Jaguar that uses that 650 hp V-8

Rick-

I was using "Ford" engine loosely. Seeing that Ford is the Parent company, but I suppose I should have clarified. And Ford used "their" version for the Lincoln LS, and Thunderbird.

Thanks for the link.

It is a good thing getting rid of the BMW V-8. They seem bent on making ugly cars with pointless technology.

I agree with Jason, yes Jaguar are a company on their own, they are being bankrolled by Ford.. technology and innovation has a habit of being used by other "Group" companies.

Also, what tech is pointless on a bimma?

The iDrive control on new BMWs is the major one.

You use it to get navigation, some climate control system operations and other stuff. They claimed it would reduce buttons but the new 7 series has them everywhere. Their interior are becoming less driver-oriented. Plus, BMW has had TWO service actions for its M3 because the rod bearings were going out. They first blamed owners for over-revving when their engines went ka-pow.

Jaguar is advertising the relevant technology of the new Jaguar XJ. I drove a new XJR back in January and loved it! It smokes the competition (E55 AMG is faster but more $$, heavier, and smaller).

Here is Jaguar's flagship, the 05 Super V8 (Super V8 for 390 hp supercharged V-8). It costs at least $27,000 than 12-cylinder German sedans. It weighs 900 pounds  less than the BMW 760Li!
