Keeping up with the Jones's
#1
When I bought my mustang I knew my brother would be saying, "My Toyota Celia GTS will still smoke you!" I dusted him...badly. Needless to say he was a wee bit envious. Well, a couple of weeks go by and he shows up at my door with a '97 Prelude with a turbo w/ 8lbs of boost. Of course, he want to run them. Before we took them to the track he wanted to do an oil change. In the process, his oil plug that was a "banjo" bolt for the return of the oil for the turbo...snapped. Now I have a "rice mobile" on Jack Stands in my driveway. Not the image I want with my '06 Mustang GT in the same driveway. To make matters worse he has to go back to Camp Lejeune in NC and he will not be able to come back for several weeks. So I guess I am going to have to turn some wrenches on said rice burner. Then drive the car back to NC to get it out of my driveway.
Anyone out there with a similar story?

haha...
That Prelude may have been fast, or it could have been slow as heck. Is it done right? Tuned?
While he's busy, get that SCT and CAI on.
You'll be able to tell if the Prelude had a hope in heck when you drive it to NC. Is it a standard banjo bolt you need, or some specialized part?

I am chompin' at the bit to get the CAI and tune done.
The work on the Prelude was done by a Import Tuning Shop called Zen Performance in Auburn, AL. From the history that my brother told me it was one of there project cars and really done right. Dyno tuned and it looks like they knew what they were doing...when compared with other "ricers" I've seen here locally.
The banjo bolt is rather large compared to others that I have seen. Only one place is known to carry it. I think I will buy him a box full. With his luck...he's going to need them.

What's a GTS? I have only heard of a GT. 180 hp with a 6 speed LOL. Why bother putting a 6 speed on a small 1.8 liter engine? Must be for the furious shifts when you get to those blistering speeds. HAHA.

They were quick at higher RPM's but not really fast per se. The GT was rated at 125 ft-lbs of torque and the GTS was rated at 130 ft-lbs of torque.
0-60 for the GT-S is about 6.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile is about 15.2 seconds, whereas your Stang stock is about 5.2 0-60 and 13.9 (conservativley) down the 1/4 mile. So all in all he really doesn't stand a chance in that dept.
His Prelude will give you more of a run for your money, but I don't think he'll take you even with the turbo. Especially if it's not tuned and running properly :P
Now if he picks up a Skyline that may change But by then you may have a S/C on your puppy. Good job putting your bro in his place Ain't family great?
