Uh, excuse me, but Lafayette wasn't British. He was French.

...and it was a joke, even though I still believe that a supercar capable of embarrasing cars $200,000 its senior demands a little more patience.

Ahhh... I see. Thanks James
James, is that only in the UK for the alarm or all over the world that it is required for insurabce purposes?

As it is not heard of in the States, one would assume that it is a requirement of the UK insurance companies.

I hear people whine and complain because gas is $2.13 a gallon here on average in Reading. I just look at them and say "You know it cost about the equivalent of $8 a gallon in the UK." Their jaws just drop. Some of us, not all but some, don't realize how good we really have it here.
As they say, "The grass is always greener on the other side."
Thanks for the info James

I stopped reading the article at this line:
Sorry, Lafayette, we want our soldiers back.

Like I said in my misposted thread in the 05 area .. I don't understand why something like a Jaguar alarm system can't be retro fitted. Our XJ6 has a great alarm system. And that's a British alarm system. British systems are rubbish (as Jeremy would say :P). Surely something can be worked out.

That's a pretty good idea. I never thought about a retrofit
That's who he is, with his opinion, he can annoy me sometimes, but also make me laugh.
And the european always have comments on american cars and vice versa.
The fact is that is 2 different continents, 2 ways of driving and if you really like a car, then you don't mind gas milage, brakes, lousy suspension, too big or too small engine, bad alarm.
My 66 doesn't drive nearly as good as my parents (humble) toyota corolla, but I love it ! Could not miss it ! And I still love the 1.3L corolla also...
My opinion
Geoffrey

That is truely sad , a car like that should have been tried tested and true one would have thought, for all of his anguish Ford had ought to at least give him something for the time wait hassle yadda yadda, and even a credit toward a Ford purchase. after all the embarrassment that landed on His face.

He says this at the end of his latest article:
Thank you, by the way, for all your e-mails on the Ford GT. There have been hundreds and hundreds. Now that I can’t go anywhere I have time to read them. And I’ll let you know what you’ve all decided.
and then this page has some of those emails, including one from the chairman of Ford of Britain:
http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0...1686284,00.html
LET DOWN: I can’t blame Jeremy for being so upset. When you buy a new car — particularly a six-figure supercar — you have every right to be upset if it fails to satisfy. I shared Jeremy’s frustration when the GT was let down by a security system that plainly didn’t work.
He and the other GT customers ordered their cars early in 2004, and waiting more than a year has stretched everyone’s patience. Recognising this, Jeremy’s car was one of the first of the official 101 GTs to be delivered to Europe. We had to carry out some engineering changes to meet European laws and insurance requirements and we also had to integrate a complex alarm and immobiliser system into the GT’s equally complex electronic mainframe.
The electronic security installation hasn’t been perfect and we know that some of the first cars (we have delivered only seven so far) have shown similar symptoms. I shan’t try to contest a single line of Jeremy’s account — we take full responsibility for the problems he has experienced and have learnt from them. Since last week I have received dozens of offers for Jeremy’s car. Tempted though we might be to move it quietly off the headlines I’d much prefer to return the GT to its rightful owner and give his wife Francie an excuse to rechristen it and Jeremy the chance to live his dream.

You must not have watched "Car & Driver TV" today. They did a supercar comparo and the only car that didn't finish the test was the Lambo Gallardo. It suffered mechanical problems (not alarm malfunctions either). It's clutch bit the dust during the test. IMO, that's not very good for a car that's supposed to be driven hard.

Acceleration testing brings out the worst of the system and resulted in the death of the clutch after one too many slipped-clutch starts. Thus, our test data are from an e-gear model tested in '04.
